Planet Hollywood, the renowned movie-themed, restaurant/nightspot & tourist attraction, and also a prominent landmark in Jalan Bukit Bintang will cease its business operations on the 16th November 2008. This is due to the fact that KL Plaza will be closed for renovation works and Planet Hollywood will be unable to operate from the location.
Planet Hollywood has been known for a great place to feast on delicious American-styled dishes in a fun and electrifying atmosphere, awesome local and foreign band playing live nightly and is considered a place that is popular among crowd seeking live entertainment.
A Planet Hollywood representative said today “ Planet Hollywood will be closed temporary until we re-open in an exciting new location. We have had over 9 years of blockbuster success and it will be sad to have to close for this temporary period as it has been one of Bukit Bintang’s most popular restaurant and nightspot”.
Planet Hollywood has played host to many music showcases and the most notable being Planet Hollywood‘s “Sunday Nite Live” showcase that presents the best in live entertainment showcasing the most prominent and promising artists in the Malaysian music scene. Sunday Nite Live creates an up, close and personal experience for music fans to watch their favourite artistes’ vocal prowess, performance versatility and style in an intimate live setting, supported by the finest musicians in Malaysia . Some of the artists that have performed under the Sunday Nite Live banner are Afdlin Shauki, Ferhad, Sheila Majid, M. Nasir, Search, Wings, Dayang Nurfaizah, Ning Baizura, Jaclyn Victor, Lefthanded,
Zainal Abidin, Ramli Sarip, Anuar Zain, Hattan, Misha Omar, Ramli Sarip, Anuar Zain, Noryn Aziz and Ella.
Legendary Jazz singer, Sheila Majid that performed to packed and sold out shows in Planet Hollywood said, “Planet Hollywood is a place where local artiste gets to showcase their talent and their work. It’s an icon of live music. I enjoyed my performances there tremendously for it was an intimate setting between me and my fans!”.
Dayang Nurfaziah, an artiste that is very synonymous with Planet Hollywood said “Performing in Planet Hollywood has always been one of the highlights in my career. It is here that I have grown as a performer and become closer to my fans!”.
Planet Hollywood has also hosted many top Indonesian artists/bands and one off music projects such as showcases by Kris Dayanti, Ruth Sahanaya, Dewa, Peter Pen, Samsons, Marcell, Rossa, Matta Band, RATU, and most recently the group Hujan.
The Planet Hollywood representative further added that “It has been over 9 glorious years of wonderful memories, a great following of patrons that have become our friends, numerous successful artist showcases and now we look forward to re-opening soon.
