It was another wonderful night where members of the arts community gathered together to celebrate each other’s accomplishments last year. The theme was ‘Gamble’, many took the effort to dress up accordingly though it may only have been the colours of in black and red. Others just dolled themselves up! Founders of kakiseni.com, Jenny Daneels and Kathy Rowland, had lovely head-wear on, coiffured by Shegar.
The big winner of the night was Prince Siddhartha, the Musical bagging 10 out of the 12 possible awards in the Musical Theatre category, leaving Cuci, the Musical with only 2 awards for Best Performance in a Supporting Role and Leading Roles; as well as the Kakiseni Audience Choice Award for Musical Theatre – please see the attached list of winners for details.
In the Dance category The Legend of the Conchshell won 5 out of the 8 awards. Both Aris A. Kadir and Lee Swee Keong, winners at the first BOH Cameronian Arts Awards, won again in this last one – how sweet for both of them!
Hands Percussion Team were the big winners in the Music category triumphing in 3 categories – Best Group Performance (Instrumental), Best Production Values and Best Musical Direction. Their performance at the closing of the evening was surreal. Bernard Goh, Artistic Director of Hands Percussion Team, is just a creative genius!
As well as recognition of exceptional achievements onstage, the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards paid tribute to those who make it happen: writers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, designers and an unusual and charming recognition, that of the teachers and scholars and this year extended it to an institution. The Temple of Fine Arts was awarded the BOH Cameronian Lifetime Achievement Award – please see the Special Awards section in the attached list of winners.
A grand sum of RM8,800.00 was raised for the YMCA Performing Arts Team. BOH Plantations matched dollar-for-dollar collected from all who attended the awards ceremony last night – a minimum contribution of RM10 was collected from each person. Chairperson of Pusat Majudiri ‘Y’, Ms. Nancy Eoon, accepted the cheque on behalf of the YMCA Performing Arts Team.
The MCs, Shanon Shah & Fahmi Fadzil, as well as the presenters were superb. There were some booboos but who cares, this is the last BOH Cameronian Arts Awards! The music playing at the Sultan Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, for The Heineken Post Awards Party was the best ever and hats off to DJ Leonard T! The Heineken was still flowing when the party ended at 2.30 AM! It was the perfect ending to what has been a fantastic tribute to the performing arts community for the last 8 years.
Kakiseni.com wishes to congratulate all the winners and sincerely thank the sponsors.
Speaking about the final curtain call of BCAA, Ms Caroline Russell, CEO of BOH Plantations said, ‘Although tonight is bitter-sweet, it also a celebration of the best of 2009. Since 2002, the Awards have contributed in some small way to the development and growth of the performing arts industry and there is no doubt in my mind that the industry will continue to thrive and evolve.
BOH’s journey with the performing arts does not end here. We are actively exploring how we can continue to support the arts and share the Ummph!, but in a different way.’
