Viddsee showcases selected nominated regional short films from ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA) 2013
Regional short film platform appointed as official digital partner for AIFFA to expand its inaugural short film festival beyond the shores of Malaysia to audience around ASEAN countries online.
Singapore, 18 March 2013 — Viddsee is appointed as the official digital partner for the inaugural ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards happening from 28th to 30th March 2013 in Kuching, Sarawak. The regional online social watching platform, Viddsee, streams short films from Southeast Asia and streamlines the process of discovering, watching and sharing regional stories for a global online audience.
Viddsee is co-founded by a Malaysian, Ho Jia Jian and a Singaporean, Derek Tan. The duo who are filmmaker-engineers are passionate about the marriage between art and technology and aims to grow the community of short film audience by enabling a wide and accessible market reach for short films.
Expanding from its previous partnership with the Singapore Short Film Awards with Singapore films, Viddsee aims to take on more regional short films to showcase the diversity of content from Southeast Asia. As part of a special curation, Viddsee will showcase selected nominees from the filmmaker and student categories of the competition from 28th March 2013 onwards.
“We built Viddsee to create an accessible way for audience to watch the best local short films on their desktop or mobile devices,” said Jia Jian, co-founder of Viddsee. “While content is readily available over the Internet today, it’s still hard to find culturally contextual content from Southeast Asia. Working with AIFFA, we hope to showcase the best stories around Southeast Asia.”
”I sincerely believe that the power is shifting away from the old studio system into the hands of the user. I see distributions platforms like Viddsee as great big soapboxes for the ASEAN community-at-large to collaborate, to create, to share, to entertain and most importantly to educate. The quality of films on Viddsee I feel represent the best our region has to offer and I would not be surprised if the next big ASEAN director or actor had their film premiere on Viddsee” said Kamil Haque, the festival’s consultant who is an actor and acting coach from the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Viddsee is also part of the jury for the short film competition along with Kamil Haque and Steven Bernard.
Audience can login to Viddsee at www.viddsee.com to watch the winning short films from AIFFA and over 1000 minutes of short films from Southeast Asia, free of charge.
