U MOBILE INTRODUCES THE LOWEST RATES ACROSS THE STRAITS
“U Mobile and Starhub team up to offer Zero Roaming Charges Between Malaysia and Singapore”
Kuala Lumpur, August 3, 2011 – U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most dynamic and innovative telco service provider, continues to show their commitment by providing Malaysians with more affordable and more convenient solutions to their mobile communication needs.
Effective from August 3rd, all U Mobile prepaid subscribers travelling to Singapore will roam on Starhub network but only to be charged at local rates and enjoy roaming absolutely for FREE.

The new offering by U Mobile will benefit millions of travellers between Malaysia and Singapore. Recent numbers show there are approximately 150,000 Malaysians commuting from Johor Bahru crossing Causeway to Singapore, with an average of 60,000 vehicles crossing the causeway on any typical day. In 2010, more than 7 million tourists from Malaysia spent their weekends and holidays in Singapore.
These savvy business travellers and cross-border commuters often carry two SIM cards, one Malaysian and one Singaporean SIM, swapping them in and out their mobile phone to maximise value-for-money on mobile usage in both countries. However it is not convenient for people who are always on the go.
With U Mobile’s latest offering, travellers can now avoid the hassle of maintaining a second SIM or a second mobile phone and no longer worry about exorbitant roaming charges. When making local calls in Singapore, U Mobile subscribers will see significant savings of up to 59 percent, with call rates of RM0.55 per minute versus RM1.35 per minute to RM1.60 per minute charged by other telco service providers in the market.

This product service will be pre-activated and therefore there is no need for additional registration. Once U Mobile customers enter Singapore, they will be able to enjoy StarHub’s local rates for calling and texting. This applies to local calls and SMS to Singapore number as well as calls and SMS back to Malaysia.
Customers with Feature phones or SmartPhones are also catered for this latest offering from U Mobile, with up to 50 to 80 percent savings in data roaming depending on the usage pattern. This will allow subscribers to continue accessing Mobile Internet services such as email, Facebook, Google, Twitter etc while they are in Singapore.
