Toilet, a play previously performed as Untitled in 2003, will be restaged in Kuala Lumpur with a full dance ensemble.
Based on the original concept of local artist Chan Kok Hooi, who did the set design and art installation for the performance in 2003, multiple award set designer winner, Caecar Chong, together with Loh Kok Man, will work on the performance space this year. Besides dance and speech, Toilet will also look into the nature of space, installation and light.
After six years, the restaging of Untitled as Toilet is a new beginning. The theatre where Untitled had its premiere is no longer in existence. Toilet will be different from its original performance in 2003 in that it will be using dancers, combining dance and speech, with visual surprises and newly composed music by Ng Chor Guan. Toilet will reveal the imaginations of certain segments of society.
Synopsis:
“I walked purposelessly. I walked purposefully. I walked on paths. I walked on paths on which it was prohibited to walk. I failed to walk on paths when it was imperative to do so. I walked on paths on which it was sinful to walk purposelessly.”
Toilet – a place where we all have to go to everyday. A place where one can dwell on dreams which may lead to disillusionment with the real world. Audiences may discover their real selves as the cast criticize each other and go on about the insidious problems of our society. Through physical movements, sound, installation, lighting and speech, Toilet will reveal the battles one can have between dreams and reality.
