The Malayan Emergency & VAT 69 Malaysia’s Very Able Troopers

HISTORYâ„¢ celebrates Merdeka with two new gripping documentaries
– The Malayan Emergency and VAT 69: Malaysia’s Very Able Troopers

In celebration of the 53rd anniversary of Malaysia’s independence, AETN All Asia Networks which owns and operates the channel HISTORY™ in Malaysia, and FINAS, The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia have co-produced two original programs chronicling the gripping story of the country’s struggle against communism.

Mohd Mahyidin Mustakim, Director General FINAS

First, The Malayan Emergency, premiering 15th August at 8pm, reveals the epic and inspiring story of a 12 year undeclared war in the midst of which independent Malaysia emerged. And then on August 22 at 8pm, VAT 69: Malaysia’s Very Able Troopers gives a compelling account of the elite SAS styled commando unit of the Royal Malaysian Police Force that was formed after the 1969 communist insurgency erupted, and ultimately forced them into laying down their arms in 1989.

Both programs are scheduled on HISTORY (Astro Channel 555) as part of Astro’s NegaraKU 2010 campaign.

Louis Boswell, General Manager of AETN All Asia Networks, comments “the story of the battle against communism forms the back drop of much of Malaysia’s modern history. These two programmes tell the story of heroism, sacrifice and tragedy and to date have not been properly covered on an international broadcaster, such as HISTORY™.

We are very glad to have been able to collaborate with FINAS to produce these shows and provide Malaysians with a platform to learn about their history and heritage. Both programmes are exactly the type of shows that our viewers appreciate and expect —seminal moments in history, dramatically recreated and narrated.

Mohd Mahyidin Mustakim, Director General of Finas, comments, “Finas is very proud to be involved with AETN All Asia Networks on these two projects for HISTORY.

As part of the vision of Dato Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim, Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, projects such as these continue to foster creativity and development within our production industry in Malaysia, while bringing significant Malaysian stories to an audience across Asia.”

The Malayan Emergency and VAT 69: Malaysia’s Very Able Troopers, give audiences a compelling and in-depth look into the pivotal events that shaped Malaysia’s national identity.

To address the needs of viewers, both programs are available in Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese subtitles. Dual language with English and Bahasa Malaysia voice over will be available for The Malayan Emergency. Also on HISTORY this month is the well-received local production Al Maunah: The Malaysian Arms Heist, airing right after Vat 69: Malaysia’s Very Able Troopers, on 22nd August at 9pm.

HISTORYâ„¢ is available on Astro Channel 555. It is a 24-hour network with Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese subtitles.
