Syfy Shorts Deadline Extended
Looking for Asia’s vibrant and emerging film talents
Entertainment channel Syfy is giving young filmmakers in Asia the chance to explore into the far reaches of their imagination. The imagination-driven brand which brings to Asia exclusive programming in the science fiction, fantasy, paranormal and adventure genres, announced that they are organising a short film competition to look for up-and-coming talents in the region.
Dubbed as ‘Syfy Shorts’, this is the first time the entertainment channel is extending to its viewers in Asia a chance at showcasing their works on television prime time.
Syfy Shorts is extending its short film submission date to January 31st 2012. After receiving an overwhelming amount of requests for an extended entry period, Syfy is giving filmmakers the opportunity to create an even greater piece of inspiring filmmaking.
The competition bids interested parties to submit an original five-minute film that is of science fiction, paranormal, adventure and fantasy genres, staying true to the Syfy brand. To further the challenge, participants have to incorporate the channel’s theme of ‘Imagine Greater’, either as part the storyline or dialogue.
Renowned industry personalities will join Syfy as part of a jury to determine which entries will make the cut. The panel comprises Singaporean filmmaker and director Eric Khoo, Managing Director of award-winning visual effects and animation studio Infinite Frameworks, Mike Wiluan, Taiwanese Director Lin Yu-Hsien and Syfy’s VP of SEA Channels, David Gunson.
Syfy has established itself as a global destination for imagination-based entertainment, and is owned by one of the world’s premier entertainment powerhouses, NBCUniversal.
Mr Gunson said, “Syfy is a brand that likes to step out of the everyday into new worlds, new ideas and new experiences. Our viewers are of the same mind – curious and unafraid to imagine greater.”
With talent fast emerging out of Asia’s film and arts scene, Syfy Shorts aims to provide a platform for fresh talent to get recognised for their creativity within their community and industry.
Syfy will be hosting the competition on-air and online (www.syfyuniversal.asia). Deadline for submission of entries is extended till 31st January 2012 at midnight. Selected Syfy Shorts’ submissions will be aired on Syfy across Asia.
