The inaugural WebTVAsia Awards 2015 which took place last Friday night at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center in Petaling Jaya, witnessed a star-studded attendance of Asia’s cream of the crop in the digital content creators industry.
For the first time ever, the region’s online video stars were awarded long overdue recognition including top honours in The Most Popular Channel and Most Popular Video awards for each of the participating nation’s best, with top video contents in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Eight more awards completed the first ever recognition for digital creators in Brand of the Year, Digital Campaign of the Year, Freaking Awesome Video of the Year, Channel of the Year, Song of the Year, Breakout Artiste of the Year and the Spirit of Mankind award.
The big winner of the night was undoubtedly the Little Apple song.
Not only did it grab Song Of The Year for China’s Chopstick Brothers – the viral effort also grabbed Digital Campaign Of The Year for the collaboration by Youku and WebTVAsia.
Hong Kong Most Popular Channel winner, Gem said WebTVAsia Awards 2015 accorded her first recognition ever since her humble beginnings on Youtube some seven years ago.
“I never thought I would receive an award like this, and this recognition – not only to honours the achievements and success of my videos, but is also dedication to my fans who have supported me,” said the Hong Kong megastar who now commands global attention.
One of the winners of Breakout Artiste Of The Year award, Ladybaby from Japan also gushed about the recognition bestowed.
“Without the online digital platform, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to be playing in different parts of the world like New York, Kuala Lumpur and Germany week in, week out.”
National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) director-general Kamil Othman in a video message, congratulated Prodigee Media for celebrating its 10th Anniversary as a media entertainment company as well as putting Malaysia on the map.
“Tonight, Fred and his team reached another milestone again for putting Malaysia on the map by hosting Asia’s first ever digital creator award show.
“I have no doubt that Prodigee will continue to lead the charge beyond our shores.”
Prodigee Media Group Founder and Chief Executive Officer Fred Chong in his opening speech said he believed that more exciting changes were coming for Asia.
“The world as we know it is constantly being disrupted: by innovation, new game rules, and new kids on the block, which is why YOU, the creators, are sitting in the front row seat tonight – because the future belongs to all of you.
“WebTVAsia wants to be the brand that showcases the best of Asian creators to the world, and with the support from creators, media, producers, brands and sponsors, we are confident that this will become an annual event, where the best of Asia comes together.”
Apart from the awards, audiences were entertained by performances from Asia’s most popular entertainers.
Namewee in collaboration with Ashtaka and 5Forty2 kicked off the show with the anthemic, Wake Up before Ladybaby had the crowd eating out of its hands with Nippon Manju.
Six-year-old Awesome Haeun was a undoubtedly one of the crowd-pleasers with energetic dance routine while Soo Wincci offered her sultry vocals on My Time.
Bie The Ska along with Hehaa and Yae came on with Angry Lover before host, Kandy, delivered A Moon.
Najwa Mahiaddin’s latest single After The Rain, in collaboration with Amir Jahari as well as pianist Maxy Chan was a moving performance that struck a chord with the audience for its message.
Namewee then was back onstage in the festive presentation of Curry Neh with Karen Kong, with the energy continuing for SNH 48’s s Halloween Night.
Roger Wang and Melvyn Gnai delivered Ready To Go before it was time for Joyce Chu and Malaysian Chabor.
Little Apple brought the night to a fitting end, first with S. White (Luo Xiao Bai) before MFL Girls.
The WebTVAsia Awards 2015, bringing together the best and most popular creators Asian nations and to celebrate the explosive growth of Asia’s top online creators for their achievements, was organized by Prodigee Media Group and its digital arm in WebTVAsia.
With the theme of “Celebrate Asia”, WebTVAsia Awards 2015 was an unprecedented regional, digital entertainment event.
The event that coincided with Prodigee’s 10 anniversary, was hosted by Malaysia’s own Jinny Boy and Kandy from Hong Kong.
WebTVAsia Awards 2015 was sponsored by MBI International and supported by the Malaysian government through its two main content industry development agencies: Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and National Film Development Corporation (FINAS).
