Indonesian songstress Anggun Cipta Sasmi received top honours at Anugerah Planet Muzik 2015 (APM 2015), which was held last Friday at Suntec Singapore.
The International Breakthrough Award is a new category in APM that recognises Anggun’s success in the international music scene and her inspiration for others to follow suit.
It was a surprise win for indie band Iman’s League in the highly competitive categories, Best Band and Best Song (Singapore). This was also a good year for first-time nominees Kunto Aji who bagged two awards Best New Artiste (Male) and Best Song (Indonesia), Elizabeth Tan for Best New Artiste (Female) and Fatin Shidqia Lubis who walked away with APM’s Most Popular Artiste title.
Singaporean pop star Taufik Batisah was the biggest winner of the night with four popular awards based on fan votes on APM Facebook Page – Most Popular Artiste (Singapore), Social Media Icon, Most Popular Song (Singapore) and APM Most Popular Song for his song #awakkatmane.
Other notable winners include Malaysian singer Siti Nurhaliza, who won Best Collaboration (Artiste) with Cakra Khan on the song Seluruh Cinta; Indonesia’s Judika who won Best Artiste (Male) and Raisa, who won Best Artiste (Female). The Best APM Song award went to Faizal Tahir for Assalamualaikum.
The 2½ hours awards show featured various performances by Siti Nurhaliza, Taufik Batisah, Rossa, Afgan, Judika, Cakra Khan and Akim & The Majistret. APM 2015 paid tribute to A. Ramlie and The Rhythm Boys, Singapore’s iconic band in the 60’s during the Pop Yeh Yeh era, through Planet Music Special Award. For the tribute segment, Ryan Sufiyan, Cakra Khan, Taufik Batisah and Hazama belted a Pop Yeh Yeh medley of evergreen classics, Hidup, Oh Fatimah and Ole Ole Temasek.
The 14th installment of APM was jointly organised by MediaCorp’s Malay Segment, Suria, Warna 94.2FM, Ria 89.7FM and Manja, and was held to recognise the best talents in the Malay music industry and showcase music collaborations in the region.
