Spotify, the most popular music streaming service today reveals that Malaysian millennials are keeping traditional Raya songs alive. According to Spotify data, over 80% of music fans aged 18-34 are streaming classic hits this festive season across all their devices.
As one of the biggest festivals in Malaysia, Hari Raya Aidilifitri is a time of celebration to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The entire country takes on a festive ambience as Malaysian music fans on Spotify, 64% of which are female and 36% are male, enjoy their classic favourites to share the joy of Hari Raya.
Spotify data also shows that streaming patterns also change during this season. During Ramadan, music streaming begins much earlier in the day at around 7:00 am, with more fans listening to songs over lunch hour.
The most streamed Hari Raya song in Malaysia is the classic Suasana Hari Raya by Sharifah Aini, followed by Saloma’s Selamat Hari Raya. Uji Rashid’s Seloka Hari Raya rounds off the list of the top three most popular songs this festive season.
Other hits in the list include the ever popular Sudirman’s Balik Kampung, a favourite amongst those who are heading back to their hometown to reunite with their loved ones. The top Hari Raya songs also rank among the top Malay songs on Spotify, a testament to their enduring popularity.
