Eight out of ten 3D TV Consumers in Southeast Asia and Oceania Choose Samsung
Samsung 3D TVs preferred by consumers
Kuala Lumpur, 16 December 2010 – Samsung Electronics swept the 3D TV market for the period of January to October 2010 with 88% market share by quantity in Southeast Asia and Oceania, according to market research firm GfK.
Consumers in the region have given a clear vote of confidence to Samsung, the first company in the world to make 3D TVs available in the region. The first mover advantage has allowed Samsung to lead consumer adoption of 3D TVs to capture both mind and market share in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
Apart from being the only brand to offer a full slate of 3D TVs – from LED to LCD and PDP, Samsung is also the first to introduce a built-in 3D processor that converts 2D content to 3D. The conversion technology helped bridge the gap in 3D content availability in the early days so that consumers can enjoy a larger array of content in 3D. Additionally, Samsung has forged partnerships with Dreamworks and Technicolor to create 3D content.
“The GfK result is extremely encouraging and we see this as strong validation from our customers on the quality and attractiveness of our 3D TVs. As the region’s leader in 3D TV, Samsung is committed to enlarging our 3D ecosystem to complete and enhance consumers’ 3D enjoyment,†said Craig Law-Smith, Director, Corporate and Brand Marketing, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd.
Recognizing early on the importance of a complete 3D ecosystem to fuel consumer 3D adoption, Samsung is the first to make available 3D home entertainment solutions with 3D Blu-ray player BD-C6900 and 3D Home Theatre System HT-C6930W along with its range of 3D LED, LCD and PDP TVs. A complete ecosystem means consumers can choose the 3D package that is optimal for their entertainment preference. Consumers have endorsed this strategy with Samsung dominating more than nine times the market share of the runner-up in this region, which accounts for 9% of the 3D TV market.
With proprietary built-in video, 3D optimized panel and Frame Rate Conversion technology, Samsung’s 3D TVs offer pictures of incredible depth and perfect clarity. All of Samsung’s 3D TV models also come with a built-in Ethernet connection, wireless-ready capabilities and Internet@TV.
Added Mr. Law-Smith: “3D represents a new era in television viewing with great growth potentials. This is just the beginning of the Samsung 3D story and consumers can expect a wider choice of 3D TV and home entertainment models. In the near future, consumers will witness our 3D technological breakthroughs which will make 3D viewing even more real and more vivid with enough 3D content to leave consumers spoilt for choice.â€
Samsung’s 3D TV leadership in the region takes the company one step closer to achieving the milestone of maintaining its leadership in the world’s TV market for 19 consecutive quarters or almost five years in a row since the first quarter of 2006.
