[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne of the many cities on my bucket list was Siem Reap, the mystical land of Cambodia with the lost civilization of Angkor Wat. It was indeed a dream come true for me when I had the opportunity recently to pack my bags and make my way to this historical city for a short and sweet weekend.
When it came to my accommodation in Siem Reap, I chose Maison Polanka, based on a dear friend’s recommendation. It was indeed a right choice that I made. Maison Polanka literally means House of Polanka in French. The word Polanka comes from Wat Polanka which is situated right next to this lovely boutique hotel.
This little haven of tranquillity consists of two villas in the form of traditional Khmer houses. The first villa is a one room suite which is made up of a well preserved 1940’s Khmer House. The interior of this villa will simply bring you back to the opulence of an old era. This suite is ideal for couples or families.
The second villa or simply known as The Maison consists of four rooms, the Green Room, Purple Room, Yellow Room and Orange Room. These rooms with en suite bathrooms are exquisitely decorated with Cambodian’s Artist and Designer, Lim M. Theam’s paintings and crafts. The uniqueness of this villa is the perfect mesh of the old and the new.
To cool you down from the humidity of Cambodian’s weather, guests can take a dip in Maison Polanka’s salt water pool. The swimming pool area is a perfect place to simply chill if swimming is not your thing. The sala or Maison Polanka’s bar cum restaurant is an open air pavilion that overlooks the pool and the lush greenery of the garden. They offer a wide range of food and beverages and you may even order something off the menu subject to availability of course.
Guests at Maison Polanka are spoilt to bits with clean, fresh and spotless rooms and facilities. The owners of Maison Polanka and their staff are a friendly bunch and they give personal attention to your every need. You can opt to spoil and pamper yourselves with their in-house spa facilities at a very reasonable price.
Although my stay was rather short here, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The peace and tranquillity of this unique boutique hotel with top notch service from their staff is something that I appreciated a lot. You can even customize your entire trip itinerary with them. So, if you would like to be mesmerized whilst being in Siem Reap, Maison Polanka should be your pick!
