WWII LOST FILMS draws from over 3,000 hours of archival color footage, unearthed from archives and private collections scattered across the globe, and restored to pristine condition through advanced HD technology.
SERIES SYPNOPSIS
WWII Lost Films is the first documentary to show World War II as it really was from the perspective of both sides, in full, immersive, HD colour. Culled from rare colour archival footage from an exhaustive worldwide search and converted to HD with a meticulous new technique, this series uses diaries and source documents to follow the personal stories of a handful of soldiers who fought in the major battles. Diaries were illegal for US soldiers to carry, but they hid them away in their packs and recorded their experiences in detail. Now, through HD colour and on-location shooting around the world, we’ll understand their journey and witness the spectacle as only they did.
This visually astonishing landmark series presents the story of World War II through the eyes of 12 Americans who experienced the war firsthand. Viewers will hear the story of Army nurse June Wandrey, who served from the beginning of the war in North Africa to the liberation of the camps in Germany. They will meet Shelby Westbrook, a young African American from Toledo, who became a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen; Jimmie Kanaya, the son of Japanese immigrants, who served in the U.S. Army and was imprisoned in Europe; and Jack Werner, a Jewish émigré who escaped from Austria before the war and wound up fighting not against Hitler and the hated Nazis, but in the Pacific Theater.
This 10-hour series is narrated by Emmy Award winner Gary Sinise and voiced by some of Hollywood’s top talents Justin Bartha, Rob Corddry, Tim DeKay, Mark Hefti, James Kyson Lee, Ron Livingston, LL Cool J, Rob Lowe, Josh Lucas, Jason Ritter, Amy Smart and Steve Zahn.

WWII Lost Films is a 10 episode series, premiering on HISTORY (Astro channel 555) starting from 10 May to 14 May (Monday to Friday) at 9pm. Encores will be on every Tuesday, starting 18 May at 9pm.
The series will follow the experiences of a handful of men as their personal journeys cross-connect with one another throughout the war. Their own words, found in unpublished diaries and journals, will be delivered with emotional impact by some of Hollywood’s top talents, helping to recreate the war’s events not as detached historical facts, but rather as profound experiences on the level of a great Hollywood epic.
As part of History’s newly formed multi-media partnership with the Library of Congress and its collection of nearly 140 million items, History will incorporate original Library of Congress audio recordings from World War II into the series.
