Omar Arif, whose face and voice one has grown familiar with as a television presenter on national prime time news is now making his foray into the singing industry and will soon be releasing an album comprising a combination of eight original songs and two covers. According to Omar, this reflects the culmination of a lifelong passion of his, adding onto his portfolio of myriad exposure and experience which includes as diverse as the corporate sector, emceeing, acting, events management and public relations.
The foremost question which comes to mind, is Omar now venturing into song and who knows, perhaps dance as well? Well, Omar was quick to elaborate and clarify that he identifies his singing style to be closer to that of the late and legendary Frank Sinatra, known to be more of a crooner rather than a song and dance entertainer, and if one is to find any measure of similarity to a more recent contemporary icon, it would be the likes of Harry Connick Jr.
In Omar debut album, he features a mix genre catering to all listeners. A bossa and jazz tune in “Pancaroba” and “Hujan Di Tengahari”, pop ethnic as in “Dia” composed by Mohar, a dance mix by Rudy@the Rude Boy in “Aku Cuba” and many more.
Omar believes in doing good while doing fine. Hence when he launches his debut album, ‘Dia (Yang Satu)’ he very much wants to do his part to contribute to the welfare of the less fortunate.
Based on the premise that music and charity can be very much in sync with each other and that charity begins at home, Omar is initiating a charity drive during this album launch. It was through reading an overwhelming article written by a feature journalist in the local papers which focused on the plight of some 30 hardcore poor families and third generation squatters in Taman Sentul Utama, a low-cost flat sandwiched between far more prestigious and privileged residential communities which provided the impetus for Omar to do his bit.
As such, all proceeds from the sale of this maiden album effort will be donated to these affected families. Any small contribution can and will still make a difference towards this noble cause.
Omar’s debut Album is being launched at 8.00 pm on the 28th October, 2008 at the Saloma Theatre and Bistro, MATIC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
