Kuala Lumpur, 5 March 2009 – Malaysia’s leading mobile operator, Maxis Communications Berhad (“Maxis”), today showcased the new BlackBerry® Curve™ 8900 at an exclusive closed-door event that was held at the Malaysian Petroleum Club at the Petronas Twin Towers. Key industry leaders and senior figures graced the event to celebrate significant BlackBerry milestones and achievements by Maxis.

Matthew Willsher, Maxis’ Chief Marketing Officer, announced the availability of the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone at all Maxis Centres nationwide and at Maxis Exclusive Partners (MEP) outlets. The new BlackBerry Curve 8900 is the thinnest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone, featuring a stylish black finish with a chrome frame. It is the fourth and latest evolution from the highly popular BlackBerry Curve range.
Willsher said, “Maxis was the first to launch the BlackBerry solution in Malaysia in 2006, and we are excited by the strong demand for this comprehensive mobility solution. The BlackBerry Curve is one of our best-sellers from the BlackBerry range and it is especially optimised to run on the Maxis EDGE network nationwide. It is a smartphone that will appeal to business and non-business users alike because of its smart, compact design and capabilities.”
The BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone is available from Maxis at RM1,459, if purchased with a Value Plus 150 postpaid plan and a BlackBerry service package that comes with a 24-month contract. Without a contract, it retails at RM1,999.
The BlackBerry Curve 8900 features built-in GPS that supports location-based applications and services. This means that you can access BlackBerry Maps or Google Maps on your device to find out exactly where you are.
It also allows easy access to social networking sites and has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), making it easier to stay connected to family, friends and colleagues. In addition, the stylish and powerful new smartphone includes a large, vivid HVGA+ (480×360 resolution) display – the highest resolution available on a BlackBerry smartphone. Furthermore, it contains a 512MHz next generation processor for fast and responsive performance.
The smartphone’s multimedia capabilities include a 3.2-megapixel camera with image stabilisation, digital zoom, flash and the ability to record video*, as well as a rich media player, a 3.5mm stereo headset jack and headset. It also features a hot-swappable micro SD/ SDHC memory card slot with support for memory cards of up to 16GB per card, giving customers plenty of storage to carry, capture and enjoy more of their music, pictures and video wherever they go.

At the event, Maxis also unveiled its latest Maxis Blackberry Internet Service monthly packages to cater to the needs of different customers. The entry-level package costs only RM40 per month for 5MB data usage; the standard package costs RM55 per month for 10MB data usage; and the unlimited data package costs RM120 per month.
