Microsoft Malaysia today celebrated a milestone event together with media and partners to welcome Microsoft’s brand new operating system, Windows 10 – which has been built to enable organizations and people to do great things. Touted as the most secure Windows ever, the improved modern OS is now available as a free upgrade to every qualified Windows 7 and 8.1 user for the first year, or with new PCs and tablets. In addition, Windows 10 is delivered as a service and kept automatically up-to-date with the latest features and security updates.
Windows 10 also has innovations such as Windows Hello2 – where you can simply show your face or use your fingerprint to login to your new devices running Windows 10 and be immediately recognized and greeted with a smile; Continuum – which adapts and optimizes your apps and experiences for your activity, device and display across touch and desktop modes; Microsoft Edge – the modern browser which allows you to annotate on web pages and share your mark-ups.
Windows 10 is also familiar and easy to use. It combines what people loved about Windows 7 such as the Start Menu, with the best of Windows 8 like the Live Tiles and enhanced touch experiences. Windows 10 not only starts up and resumes fast, but is also designed to work with software and hardware you already have today, such as PCs, tablets and The Internet of Things, and in future – with phones, HoloLens and more.
“Since the global launch of Windows 10 on 29 July, Microsoft has seen as many as 14 million people around the world upgrade to Windows 10 within the first 24 hours, with reviews and customer feedback overwhelmingly positive around the globe,” said K Raman, Managing Director, Microsoft Malaysia. “We’re ushering in a new era for both Microsoft and for Windows.”
Raman added that it is also the first ever operating system that was created based on feedback from fans – over 5 million Windows Insiders who have given us their thoughts about the operating system – what they loved, what they felt could be changed, and what some of the features that should be kept. “Windows 10 is a product that was truly built by the community, for the community and we will keep it this way by continuing the Windows Insider Program and accepting new feedback to make the product even better,” he said.
Upgrading to Windows 10 is easy for customers running a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC or tablet. Starting 29 July, people who reserved their upgrade to Windows 10 will be notified in waves when their upgrade is ready to be installed over the coming days and weeks ahead. Microsoft Malaysia has also worked closely with its retailers to roll out Tech Benches – a service in which individuals can upgrade their Windows 7 and 8.1 devices to Windows 10 at these retailers’ stores. These retailers include ALL IT Hypermarket Sdn Bhd, Elitetrax Marketing Sdn Bhd (also known as Harvey Norman), Hello Station (M) Sdn Bhd (Selected Microsoft Authorized Reseller stores), Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd, SNS Network (M) Sdn Bhd, and Thunder Match Technology Sdn Bhd. A full list of the locations of the Tech Benches can be found here: http://aka.ms/techbench.
In addition to the Tech Benches, Microsoft will also be conducting Windows 10 roadshows, starting with the SNS Roadshow at Mid Valley (North Court) on 10-16 August, followed by the Malaysia IT Fair at Mid Valley on 28-31 August to help Malaysians embrace and better understand the new era of more personal computing with Windows 10.
Raman also added, “Windows 10 gives you the most choice in innovative styles of devices, and offers stunning new forms, features, and functionality. Together with our hardware partners Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, iPro, Joi, Lenovo and Toshiba, together with our technology partner, Intel – we’re ready for a new era of Windows.”
“The launch of Windows 10 is an exciting moment for Microsoft and the whole technology industry. Intel looks forward to bringing new computing experiences for consumers across Malaysia with the combination of Intel® processors and Windows 10,” said Sumner Lemon, Country Manager, Intel Malaysia and Singapore.
Empowering people of action to do great things
During the event, Microsoft Malaysia honored three great Malaysians who have inspired and empowered others with their contributions. This is in line with the Company’s global year-long initiative #UpgradeYourWorld, which celebrates people and organizations who do great things and make a difference in our lives. Led by Microsoft’s vision to help people achieve more through technology and in celebration of the Windows 10 launch, Microsoft Malaysia will be working with these outstanding individuals and their organizations to support the great work that they do every single day to upgrade the world around us.
These three truly inspirational leaders are (1) Yang Berbahagia Senator Bathmavathi Krishnan, Member of Dewan Negara, Parlimen Malaysia, and an advocate and champion of the disabled community; (2) YM Raja Riza Shazmin Raja Badrul Shah, Honorary Secretary of Mercy Malaysia – an established disaster relief organization providing medical and humanitarian services both locally and abroad; and (3) John-son Oei, the founder of EPIC Homes – an organization which builds homes for the Orang Asli in Malaysia.
“A disability does not mean that you are any less a person. You may not be able to walk, you may not be able to move your hands, but still – there is a life for you. ICT enhances the lives of the disabled community so that they can participate in, and contribute back to society. Now especially with Windows 10, it will help to open a window for persons with disabilities in Malaysia as well as the world,” said Senator Bathmavathi.
“Working in a disaster area, what would really help is to have a hub where all information can be collated and used to inform everybody, and everyone can then share this information. Technology can act as that hub to help coordinate relief efforts,” said YM Raja Riza.
“EPIC is a lifestyle of belief and faith in humanity. I believe the answer to upgrading lives is a constant process of learning between those that help and those who need it. We all care and are doing the best that we can in our ability to upgrade the world to be a better place,” said John-son.
