Record amount set to be raised for three children’s charities as the hunt for the best amateur expatriate golfer in Malaysia returns
Three local children’s charities will be the recipients of an estimated RM65,000 thanks to the sixth annual Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Open to be played on Friday 22 May 2015, at the world-class Kota Permai Golf and Country Club. Full proceeds from the event will benefit the Protect and Save The Children Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur (PS. The Children), the Home of Peace and the Special Children Society of Ampang (SCSOA).
During the tournament over 80 golfers will have the chance to win star prizes, either by winning the tournament or achieving a hole-in-one – three separate hole-in-one competitions are running on the day to win, respectively, a Volvo V40, two return Etihad Airways flights or RM30,000 cash. Other competitions with prizes on offer will include the Nearest-the-Pin challenge and the Longest Drive. The day of golf will be followed by a dinner, auction and prize giving ceremony.
In the last five years, the Charity Open has raised more than RM180,000 for Malaysian charities and is set for a record charity donation this year, thanks to the high number of player’s green fees, plus the auction of star items headlined by a pinflag from the EurAsia Cup 2014 signed by the European team.
The event is proudly partnered by many Malaysian companies who have kindly donated prizes and money to participate in the day, organised by Expatriate Lifestyle magazine, Malaysia’s biggest expatriate magazine. 2015 sponsors and partners include tournament director City Golf, Volvo, Etihad, Hole in One, Haig Club, Allied Pickford’s, 100 Plus, Corporate Information Travel, Faber Castell and MST Golf among others.
As well as supporting the three chosen children’s charities with funds, the charities are also invited to bring children to attend the event and take part in a number of activities including a creative interactive session plus golf clinic adding more value in engaging the expatriate community with a really good cause.
“This tournament is a great way for Expatriate Lifestyle to connect with some of Malaysia’s finest amateur expatriate golfers and to raise money for great charities that help the very young in their times of need,†says Matt Bellotti, Chief Content Officer, Mongoose Publishing. “As per the pre-charity open pledge, 100 per cent of the players’ registration fees, donations, raffle draw and charity auction proceeds will go to our three selected associations.â€

The beneficiaries for 2015 are as follows:
Protect and Save The Children Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur (PS. The Children)
P.S. The Children began in April 1999 as a project in response to the need for a voice for sexually abused children. It was soon clear that there was a void to be filled, and so by the end of 2001, P.S. The Children was established as a full-fledged non-profit association. In a move towards a world that upholds the rights and dignity of every child, P.S. The Children’s vision is to build safer communities where children are protected from sexual abuse and exploitation; we aim to achieve this by advocating and establishing effective prevention education for both adults and children; strengthening treatment and support services whilst at the same time forging synergistic partnerships within communities.
The Home of Peace
Home of Peace was established in 1992 and provides a home in Taman Bukit Indah for up to 20 girls. Emphasis is placed on giving the girls a loving family environment and the encouragement and support to help them realise their full potential. Hard work has paid off with several of the girls now working and living in KL and one of the girls recently accepting a place in New Zealand where she is studying a 3 year teaching certificate course in Early Childhood Education.
The Special Children Society of Ampang
The Special Children Society of Ampang is a non-profit organization that provides special care and education for children with physical, developmental and learning disabilities including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and prader-willi, delayed and slow learners.
