LARGEST FLASH MOB ON ICE IN MALAYSIA WOWS 5000 CROWD FOR STAR WORLD
Catch the opening season of Mobbed exclusively on STAR World (Astro Ch 711) and STAR World HD (Astro Ch 722) on 1 July 2012 at 8pm
Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2012 – Celebrating life, art, and dance, the season premiere of a brand new television series in Malaysia was announced with a bang as a flash mob on ice took place at Sunway Pyramid’s Ice-Skating Rink, taking 5000 shoppers and skaters alike by surprise. The first episode of the new series, Mobbed, will be aired on Sunday, 1 July 2012 on STAR World (Astro Ch 711) and STAR World HD (Astro Ch 722) at 8pm and subsequent episodes every Sunday thereafter.
The spectacle was made possible thanks to the ice-skaters from Sunway Pyramid Ice’s Skating Academy who pulled off a stunning performance. Malaysia’s largest flash mob on ice involving 60 skaters received a thunderous applause from the excited crowd.
“We initiated this flash mob because we wanted to create a surprise entertainment at one of Malaysia’s most iconic and popular shopping malls,” Basil Chua, Director and Territory Head for FOX International Channels (FIC) Malaysia said. “This amazing event was to celebrate the premiere of our latest reality TV series, Mobbed, First and Exclusive on STAR World and STAR World HD. Filled with a pleasant surprise of song and dance and sharing of joy and happiness, it gives Malaysian audience a reason to look out for the series.” he added.
Mobbed is an American reality television show hosted by comedian Howie Mandel, well known as the host for the game show, Deal or No Deal. In each installment of this series, Mandel with the help of Emmy Award winning choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo, choreographers of So You Think You Can Dance and Cirque Du Soleil will plan a bizarre surprise for a friend, family member, loved one or co-worker. The unknowing participant will be shocked and stunned by a bolt from the blue performance by thousands of volunteers that will lead up to a fantastic reveal.
Chua expressed his confidence that this new series will add to the breadth of entertainment choices provided by STAR World. As one of the leading entertainment channels, he mentioned that FIC continuously strives to provide new and exclusive contents to enhance the viewing experience of their loyal viewers.
Speaking on behalf of the bladed flash mob, Albert Cheok, manager of Sunway Pyramid Ice Skating Rink said that the participants of the mob were over the moon about the performance.
“It is definitely our pleasure to be partnering FIC/STAR World and we look forward to having more projects with them. It was an exciting time preparing for this and some of them were nervous. Our skaters are well trained, some of them having years of experience. Thanks to the coach, they managed to pull it off in style,” said Albert Cheok, manager of Sunway Pyramid Ice.
