“Everywhere we go in the world, our fans would tell us that we were their band, that we felt familiar to them, as if we were writing specifically for them,” OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder said. “As an American band, we aspire to connect with other people outside of our borders. “And native, the word means familiar and local, and that’s the best answer we can give. We aim to be familiar and local to every country in the world. We want to be local to everybody.” Come Thursday October 31st, One Republic will be a “native†to their Malaysian fans at Surf Beach Sunway Lagoon for their NATIVE TOUR Concert at 8.30 pm.
[pullquote align=”right”]Malaysian fans will be able to experience them sing their hit songs such as “Apologizeâ€; “Stop And Stareâ€; “All the Right Moves; “Secrets”, “”Good Life”.and their latest hits :Feel Again†and “If I Lose Myselfâ€.[/pullquote]
Featuring the anthemic songwriting of Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic rose to prominence in 2007, when “Apologize” began its reign as the most popular digital download in American history. The remix version, featured on Timbaland’s album Shock Value was a smash hit internationally, reaching number one in sixteen countries and gaining 10 million downloads, subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination Although the song proved to be a quick success, OneRepublic had spent five years touring the musical minor leagues before its release, with Tedder splitting his time between the band’s work and production gigs for other artists
Nevertheless, OneRepublic’s popularity continued to soar on MySpace, and Tedder helped raise the group’s profile by penning songs for artists like Blake Lewis and Hilary Duff. Hip-hop producer Timbaland (with whom Tedder had already worked for several years) took notice of the group’s audience and signed OneRepublic to his own Mosley Music Group, a joint venture with Interscope Records. Timbaland also remixed one of the group’s most promising tracks, “Apologize,” and included it on his own album, 2007’s Timbaland Presents Shock Value. The song quickly became a platinum-selling single in many countries, breaking airplay records in the U.K. and selling an unprecedented 4.3 million digital downloads in America alone.
Later that year, OneRepublic stepped out on their own with Dreaming Out Loud, a debut album filled with piano-fueled songwriting and pop/rock melodies. The album quickly went gold, and “Apologize” continued to top the singles charts in multiple countries. AnotherTedder-penned track, Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” experienced similar success at the same time, thus making Tedder one of the year’s most celebrated songwriters.
OneRepublic began writing songs for a second album in 2008, and the group later decamped to Colorado Springs to avoid outside distractions. Although initially planned for a summer release, Waking Up wasn’t completed until September 2009. “All the Right Moves,” the album’s lead single, was released to radio that same month, while the entire album followed in November.
In 2013, OneRepublic returned with its third studio album, Native, featuring the singles, “Feel Again” and “If I Lose Myself.” We didn’t want to make laptop rock,” says the lead singer, Ryan Tedder. “We wanted it to be warm, organic. It’s just better.” While OneRepublic’s previous albums possessed a more slow-paced, melancholic sound, Native has a decidedly more upbeat feel. The band pushes more musical boundaries than ever before by peppering their signature pop-rock hybrid with electronic sounds, blues, gospel and folk.
“It’s been a long while since we last released an official album and for everyone’s patience we are very thankful! This third album, slated to be titled “Native”s, like most current expressions, the evolution of our music. It also represents what we think is lacking in our rep i.e. more uptempo songs! Instrumentally we include more keyboards and synths, more sounds with no definitive source, and larger more gospel inspired vocals.†says member Zach Filkins.
The theme of our first single “Feel Again” encompasses a few different aspects to the human condition so we don’t claim to know what it is about exactly. However, the Save the Children campaign was a no brainer for us as their main goal is to rescue children from all types of very treatable conditions which threaten their ability to live life in the moment and without restraint. “Feel Again”, along with other sentiments, shares the common goal of shedding restrictions and living free. Our choice to donate earnings from “Feel Again” was from a humble desire to give a bit more than just a few moments of our time. “, adds Zach Filkins.
But often Tedder is pushing himself and inspiring his music along the way, such as when he produced a song for Swedish House Mafia and later performed with them at 2012’s Coachella Music Festival. During the band’s set, Tedder excitedly texted his OneRepublic bandmate Brent Kutzle, “Dude, I’m at Coachella right now, and I’m having my mind blown by Swedish House Mafia. We need one song that captures this kind of energy but retains the fact that we’re a band.†That inspiration became the band’s second single, “If I Lose Myself,” a likable pop ballad that morphs into a club anthem.”We wrote the song on the upright piano in my studio (in Denver), and we finished the version I loved, which the label said, ‘It sounds too live.’ But I loved it, and I want to release it some day. We thought it was beautiful. They said it was too beautiful, and it needed to be more knocking. And in comes (producer) Benny Blanco, a good friend of mine, and he put his touch on it.”
