Cilantro Culinary Academy Cooking Experience
Kuala Lumpur, June 20, 2011, – Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd, a leader in convergence technologies and innovator of state-of-the-art kitchen solutions, saw five deserving winners from Samsung’s ‘Cook With Love’ contest, compete in the grand finale cook-off at Cilantro Culinary Academy.
A shortlist of 5 finalists was selected from the 41 participants of the preliminary rounds, based on their most creative presentation of a meal cooked using microwave ovens.
During the cook-off finale, the contestants were put to task to create another culinary masterpiece using a Samsung microwave convection oven. Judges for the finale event were Mr. Gary Te, Director of Home Appliances Business Unit, Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. Bhd., and special guest judges from three exclusive media houses.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Gary Te said, “We not only wanted to show people new ways in which they can express love to their parents uniquely and creatively, but to demonstrate how easy it is to cook with Samsung microwave ovens. This contest does just that, it encourages creativity, facilitates discovery, enhances lifestyles, and enriches lives.”
Cook-off participants Kelvin Kho, Yeoh Mei Jin, Chin Lay Lee, Rosni Binti Johari and Lim Shu Yie, were challenged to cook up great tasting and well presented crystal dumplings, in partnership with a member of their family. To add the time critical factor, contestants were given 30 minutes to prepare their masterpiece with the Samsung CE117AE-S convection microwave oven.
The cook-off was a joy to watch, contestants making themselves busy around their individual cook stations, utensils and ingredients working in concert to mix-up the tasty little treat. All 5 pairings of relatives worked efficiently, in perfect harmony, blending all the ingredients for the crystal dumplings.
Once the heat from the kitchen was cut, and the contestants were judged for their culinary talent, Chef Ricky Eu, Senior Chef Instructor from Cilantro Culinary Academy showcased the heightened usage of Samsung’s microwave convection oven. He demonstrated the various usage of the Microwave Convection Oven by preparing Chicken Lasagna, Salmon En Papillotte and Melting Moments (butter cookies) and even went on to demonstrating how an egg can be cooked using this microwave convection oven.
The consolation prize winners of the Samsung GW73 microwave ovens worth RM499 were the mother and son tag-team of Yeoh Mei Jin, Chin Lay Lee with her cousin and the dynamic duo of Kevin Kho and his grandmother. Speaking after the cook-off, Kevin Kho said, “I love cooking, and my grandmother is a great cook, she has been an inspiration for me through the years. I am not a chef, and I’m not planning to become one, but this doesn’t detract from how much I love cooking”.
Grand prize winners, Lim Shu Yie and Rosni Binti Johari looked like top chefs in the making, taking charge and full control of her cooking space. Both participants handled the dumpling skin exceptionally well, especially so when you consider the intricacy of folding the crystal dumplings. The grand prize winners won themselves a Samsung microwave convection oven CE117AE-S worth RM1199.
