Film Line & Prodigee Media Announce China Film Projects In Busan

Korea’s Film Line Pictures Production Ltd. and Prodigee Media Sdn. Bhd. of Malaysia today announced in a signing ceremony, an official partnership to produce two major films for the China market, “OPPA KIM SUN NAN” and a remake of the Thai box office hit, “THE TEACHER’S DIARY”.

“OPPA KIM SUN NAN”, an original creation of Film Line’s award-winning director, Mr. Kim Tai Sik (“DRIVING WITH MY WIFE’S LOVER) and award-winning film producer Mr. Fred Chong (“NASI LEMAK 2.0, “KARA KING”), founder of Prodigee Media, was selected at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP) 2013 as well as the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) Projects 2014. The script will be written by renowned scriptwriter Shu Huan, who penned China’s highest grossing film, “LOST IN THAILAND”.

“We are also very pleased to present China’s Phoenix Legend Films Co., Ltd. as our main investor of the project”, said Mr. Fred Chong. Mr. Yu Hao, Vice President of Phoenix Legend Films, remarked: “Phoenix Legend Films is very proud to be associated with Film Line and Prodigee Media, as we strongly believe that this film will become a benchmark for more co-productions in the future between China and our Asian partner countries like Korea and Malaysia.”

Film Line and Prodigee Media also announced the appointment of Mr. Kim Tai Sik as the director of “THE TEACHER’S DIARY”, which will be remade in Chinese language. In conjunction with the original film’s premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, its director Mr. Nithiwat Tharatorn was present to witness the occasion. “THE TEACHER’S DIARY” will be Thailand’s nomination at the coming Academy Awards under Foreign Language category.

“I first met Fred Chong at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in 2012, and we have been planning to collaborate together ever since. So today these two projects mark an important milestone for us,” said Mr. Kim Hyo Jeong, Producer at Film Line.

Also present at the signing ceremony were KOFIC Chief of Co-Production, Mr. Park Tuk Ho, director Mr. Jo Jin Kyu (“MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER”), Korean producer Mr. Ahn Dong Kyu, Malaysian Multimedia Development Corporation, Head of Film Sector, Mr Ismail Marzuki Mohamad and CEO of Prodigee Media China, Mr. Lee Hua Ling.

Both films will begin principal photography in 2015, with “OPPA KIM SUN NAN” having over 70% of its locations based in Korea while “THE TEACHER’S DIARY” will be entirely shot in China. Release dates have been set for 2015/2016.
