A truly Malaysian film, TEMUAN TAKDIR brings home the prestigious Accolade Global Film Competition’s ‘Award of Recognition’, Chandler International Film Festival’s ‘Best New Filmmaker’ Award and two international film festivals’ ‘Official Selection’.
The Accolade Global Film Competition recognises film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. Entries are judged by highly qualified professionals in the film and television industry. Information about the Accolade and a list of recent winners can be found at www.accoladecompetition.org.
In winning an Accolade, TEMUAN TAKDIR’s filmmaker, cast and crew join the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award including the Oscar winning production of The Lady in Number Six by Malcolm Clarke, the very talented Dave Bossert of Disney for his short documentary, The Tunes Behind The Toons, Hollywood industry veteran Ron Howard for When You Find Me and Highwire Films Australia for their popular ABC TV series twentysomething. Rick Prickett, who chairs The Accolade Global Film Competition, had this to say about the latest winners, “The Accolade is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent. The Accolade helps set the standard for craft and creativity. The judges were pleased with the exceptional high quality of entries. The goal of The Accolade is to help winners achieve the recognition they deserve.”
Meanwhile, Chandler International Film Festival organisers will be presenting the ‘Best New Filmmaker’ award at its red carpet awards ceremony during its international film festival, which will take place at Chandler Center for the Arts in Arizona, U.S.A from 13th to 15th January 2017.
Dhyan Vimal who is also the Founder-Chairman of international non-profit organisation, Friends to Mankind, embarked on this filmmaking journey to open doors to many first-timers (both cast and crew), to be part of it. This was in line with ‘Project Dignity’, which he launched globally last year.
TEMUAN TAKDIR is supported by international non-profit organisation, Friends to Mankind, under its ‘Project Dignity’ initiative. The making of this film involved a cast and crew member lineup of 50% experts and 50% amateurs.
Based on the rich tradition of apprenticeship and transference of skills, First-time Director-Producer, Dhyan Vimal, was able to bring together a combination of veteran actors like Dato’ Zahim Albakri and Vanidah Imran, to work alongside new artistes like Azura Zainal, Thanuja Ananthan and Kiranjit Kaur. It was also the first lead role for Amai Kamaruddin who played the role of psycho-criminal ‘Omar’, impeccably.
A popular local drama artiste, Malieq Abdullah, also had his first break in this feature film. Many others also had their ‘first-time’ opportunity in this film, such as the music composer, steady cameraman, casting manager, designers, project director and other crew members. Winning this award was truly an achievement beyond their dreams.
This movie project is just one of the many initiatives to empower Malaysians with new skills, so they may live in dignity and contribute to society.
On hearing the news after returning from his European speaking tour, the award-winning First-time Director-Producer, Dhyan Vimal said, “The mission of Friends to Mankind in all its projects is not about an individual success, but the success that it brings to all in the project and the project itself is the success of humanity.”
On winning this award, Friends to Mankind Patron, Yang Mulia Dato’ Paduka Noor Aini Datuk Abdullah, who made a guest appearance in TEMUAN TAKDIR said, “Wow, we won this award!!! Alhamdulillah – such an honour. Congratulations to the makers, cast and crew of Temuan Takdir.”
TEMUAN TAKDIR makes Malaysia proud with this award. It is the story of two dedicated police officer brothers, ASP Tuan Roslan and Inspector Shariff who intelligently pursue the ‘Mastermind’ behind a security van heist. The subtle yet powerful messages of duty, love and the deep bond of brotherhood make it a truly Malaysian film that has made its impact internationally.
TEMUAN TAKDIR premiered under the Royal Patronage of HRH Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang on 8 August 2016 before opening in cinemas nationwide on 11 August. It made its debut screening in Sweden on 20 October, and will be screening in Vancouver, Canada next. The film received immense support from many members of the Malaysian royal family, corporations, organisations and individuals for its humanitarian effort, including low-cost airlines AirAsia Berhad, which supported the film by selecting it as the first Malaysian film it promoted onboard 33 of its aircraft.
