Farid Sanullah was a musically inclined child who never failed to blow his family and friends away when he opened his mouth to sing. As an adult who is blessed with both exquisite talents and good looks in the present time, Farid is adamant to pursue his career in singing.
The 22-year-old was born in Malaysia, but brought up in Australia, and is of Pakistani origin. Being born into an artistic, jovial family, Farid grew up being exposed to a wide variety of classical and contemporary music; thanks in large to his father who is also a record producer and composer who has worked closely with big names like YBhg Dato’ Suhaimi Md. Zain, Azlina Aziz, YM Raja Badri.
[pullquote]Farid’s music is very universal, combining his engaging voice and expressive songcraft to create impact in the hearts of his listeners. Having been compared to Maher Zain and Sami Yusuf, Farid embodies a new breed of R&B and modern Islamic nasheed and focuses mainly on the concepts, despite having a wider repertoire.[/pullquote]
In Australia, Farid did quite a number of live performances at all kinds of social events and was deeply honoured when requested to perform in front of Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Haji Mohd Yassin at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in the year of 2011. Due to his impeccable, eye-opening act, Farid’s talents started to be more and more recognised by those in Australia, and the news, of course, flew on its own to Malaysia.
In the very same year, Farid received an invitation to perform at the wedding of YM Datin Tengku Zawyah Tengku Izham and YBhg Datuk Rayyan Joseph King at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. At the event, Farid gave an outstanding vocal performance with his soaring falsetto, that made him drown in the overflowing compliments from all the guests. Malaysia’s number one Master of Ceremonies who was emceeing the beautiful reception, none other than YBhg Dato’ Mahadzir Lokman, personally congratulated him, and told him that he had ‘a bright future ahead of him’. That was Farid’s defining moment as a singer, leading to his decision to begin building his singing career in Malaysia.
True enough, as soon as he released his first single, ‘Don’t Forget Allah’, Farid became the talk of the town. In a blink of an eye, the diamond in the rough went on to headline local talk shows and entertainment programmes – Selamat Pagi Malaysia (TV1), Malaysia Hari Ini, Melodi, and Muzik-Muzik (TV3), Nasi Lemak Kopi O (TV9), Gala TV (Astro Awani), Propaganza (Astro Ria), and Assalamu’alaikum (TV AlHijrah). In addition to those, Farid also made his appearances in numerous local publications – The Star, Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, Harian Metro, and Mangga. Above all, Farid was truly privileged when he was invited as a guest of YBhg Datuk Aznil Haji Nawawi (Pak Nil) for his programme on ERA fm. Pak Nil had a lot of confidence in Farid and positioned him as ‘a complete package and good to go’. Farid also had a great time when he was interviewed on one of IKIM fm’s radio programmes.
To make everything even better for Farid, his team managed to get one of the greatest actresses Malaysia has ever had, Fauziah Nawi, to be featured in his debut music video. The video received 200,000+ views on YouTube. Following the release of his first single, and with his aims to empower the youth and to make the world see the beauty of Islam, the young singer-songwriter is now ready with a handful of songs as one of the steps to making a big name!
