Emmy Nominated Downton Abbey Set To Premiere on DIVA this September
Kuala Lumpur – Highly acclaimed period drama Downton Abbey is set to premiere on DIVA Universal channel (Astro 702) beginning 8 September, Thursdays at 11pm. Just recently, Downton Abbey received an impressive 11 nominations for the 2011 Emmy Awards, which will take place next month.
Oscar-winning actress Maggie Smith leads the ensemble cast, which includes Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern. Smith and McGovern’s portrayal earned them both nods for this year’s Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress respectively.
Other Emmy nods for Downton Abbey include one in the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie category as well as nods in directing, casting, art direction, costumes, cinematography and sound editing.
Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, Downton Abbey portrays the lives of the Crawley family – the Earls of Grantham since 1772 – and the servants who work for them. A crisis of inheritance threatens to displace the resident Crawley family, in spite of the best efforts of the noble and compassionate Earl, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville); his American heiress wife, Cora (Elizabeth McGovern); his comically implacable, opinionated mother, Violet (Maggie Smith); and his beautiful, eldest daughter, Mary, intent on charting her own course.
Petty jealousies and ambitions grow among the family and the staff, scheming and secrets – both delicious and dangerous – threaten to derail the scramble to preserve Downton Abbey.
This much buzzed-about series was written and created by Julian Fellowes, who also wrote the screenplay for Oscar-winning Gosford Park.
