Twenty-eight (28) children from Our Family Home, Kajang had an early Christmas cheer this year as Sungei Wang Plaza hosted an fun-filled events for them recently.
The underprivileged children comprises of 15 females and 13 males, aged between 10 and 18 years old were invited to Sungei Wang Plaza in conjunction with the mall’s Christmas celebration themed Cheer-y Merry Christmas.
The event kicked off with a shopping spree at Watson’s whereby the children were allowed to choose one of their own favourite item from the personal care store without limitation of price. The chosen item varies from fluffy soft toys to toiletries, perfumes, skincare sets, body care sets and many more.
Following to the shopping spree, the children were taken to the Concourse Level for a special preview of Cheer4Christmas Performance at the Concourse Level and goody bag presentation. The goody bags comprises of chocolates, snacks, mug and CD holder were presented by Mr K K Lim, Senior Manager of Promotions & Public Relations of Sungei Wang Plaza and Mr Faiz Shah, Senior Marketing Manager of Watson’s Personal Care Stores Sdn Bhd.
The shopping trip to Sungei Wang Plaza finally ended with hair wash and hair cut for all children at APT Professional Team, one of the hair salons and hair academies in Sungei Wang Plaza. The children looked neater and fresher with their new haircut and went home with smiling faces.
Three siblings Peter Lee (8), Jane Lee (9) and Anne Lee (10) five enjoyed their first to Sungei Wang Plaza and had so much fun with their friends. “We never had the opportunity to choose our own favourite items at any personal care store or get a haircut and hair wash at a salon. We also enjoyed the cheerleading performance because the stunts were really breathtaking and awesome”, ended the siblings.
According to John Santana, Our Family Home Administrator, the shopping trip to Sungei Wang Plaza cheered the children in many ways. “At Our Family Home, we live as a family regardless of our races. Today the outing is really fun as we treat this shopping trip as our family outing whereby the older children will look after their younger sisters and brothers. They help each other to choose their favourite items at Watson’s and they eat together as one big family during the lunch reception. They also complimented each other on their new hairstyle after the hair cut at APT.

Themed Cheer-y Merry Christmas, loads of excitement awaits all shoppers from energetic Cheerleading Performance to Cheerleading Workshops, Christmas Carolling, Santa Claus Appearance till 26th December 2010.
According to Mr K K Lim, Senior Manager Promotions and Public Relations of Sungei Wang Plaza, especially for this coming Christmas Sungei Wang Plaza decided to celebrate Christmas with unique and entertaining performances featuring Malaysian cheerleaders.
“These cheerleaders comprises of 16 members from The Code Team, will be performing a series of stunts from basic two-legged stunts to one-legged extended stunts and high flying basket tosses.
They are talented and very skilful cheerleaders. The cheerleading stunts like Liberty, Scale, Pyramid and Crazy Eight must not be missed as it involves daring and awesome routines that have been rehearsed via extensive trainings”, said K K.
“This year we choose cheerleading performances as we would to promote active and healthy lifestyle among the teenagers. Shoppers also could look forward to learn basic cheerleading stunts in our free workshops during the celebration. In addition, we also would like to treat our shoppers with entertaining performances while they shop for their festive celebration”, added K K.
The cheerleading performances are currently performed at 7.30pm on 10th, 17th and 24th December 2010 and at 2.00pm on 11th, 18th, 25th and 26th December 2010 at the Concourse Level of Sungei Wang Plaza.

According to K K, it is indeed a cheery Christmas in Sungei Wang Plaza this year with a mix ambience of modern cheerleading style and the comfort of traditional Christmas display.
“The stage backdrop was made to look like a school, a high school to be precise, where the practice of cheerleading was popularised by the teenagers. Textured with sands over wood to portray western stone built walls, the school is decorated with Christmas elements such as Christmas trees, poinsettias and golden doors with western motifs. Colourful flags are hung vibrantly across towards the school, representing liveliness of sportsmanship and all the motivations cheerleaders can provide to teams and everyone else.
Large, beautiful red and blue bells are hung over the ceiling above the atrium with colourful lights and hanging ornaments. The booth spaces in Sungei Wang Plaza are decorated with authentic white, wooden fences with green lawn, beautifully decorated signs, lampposts and medium-sized Christmas trees.
As visitors walk along the walkway in Sungei Wang Plaza, they will have a chance to witness the cozy lineups of colourful Christmas trees adorned with mini cheerleading pom-poms, mini bells and other beautiful ornaments”, ended K K.
