BRAVE EXCITEMENT AT SHOPPING MALL
New Disney Pixar movie attraction at Sunway Pyramid
Fans of Disney Pixar can look forward to a new movie hitting cinemas soon! The new animation, Brave, is Disney Pixar’s first feature film driven by a female lead and also their first set in an ancient historical period. The hype for Brave has begun in conjunction with the school holidays at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall.
Brave tells the story of Merida, a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor, who is determined to prove her worth. Based in Scotland, Merida ignores a sacred age-old custom, inadvertently causing controversy and chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch for help, she is cursed and must discover the meaning of true bravery by undoing the spell before it’s too late.
In collaboration with Disney Pixar, Sunway Pyramid is all set for Brave, which is expected to hit cinemas in July. The shopping mall has transformed its main concourse into a forest scene from the movie, to the delight of many children and shoppers.
Shoppers can enjoy the main scenes featured in the movie such as the Standing Stones, where magical events take place, and Castle Dunbroch, the home of the royal family in the mall. The mall has also re-created The Wisps, known as spiritual, ethereal beings in Brave, and replicated the throne of King Fergus on stage. Photo enthusiasts can sit on the throne and snap a picture.
“Brave is a highly inspirational, family-themed movie that we believe many would enjoy. Merida is not your usual Disney princess in addition to being Pixar’s first princess and it was partly her unique character along with the fact that the story was based in Scotland that attracted us to work together with Disney Pixar to feature Brave in our mall,” says Phang Sau Lian, Marketing Director of Sunway Pyramid.
“The idea of having a forest-like concourse was also appealing as we are an environmentally friendly community mall and we were able to create green activities for children using the Brave forest landscape this school holiday season,” she adds.
Sunway Pyramid has scheduled many exciting activities for children at the concourse such as cupcake decorating workshops, pretzel rolling rallies and archery, but the main two highlights are the Mini Scouts Camp and Go Green with Leo for children below 12 years of age.
Children are taught to set up tents, tie various knots, build a campfire and sing campfire songs by a few Scouts from SMK Bandar Sunway in the Mini Scouts Camp. Go Green with Leo on the other hand, teaches children about the importance of recycling and each of them learns basic planting skills.
“Our mall recognises the fact that many parents would bring their children to shopping malls during school holidays, a trend which has been on-going for several years. With this in mind, we constantly create interesting activities for kids so they are still learning during the school holidays but in a fun manner,” says Phang.
“Shopping malls are the most popular places to go during weekends and school holidays because it’s lively, air-conditioned, and has many other activities suitable for a family day out. In Sunway Pyramid for example, they can opt for bowling, archery or ice-skate. They can also catch a movie at TGV, which recently introduced an IMAX theatre and a Beanie-plex theatre unique to our shopping mall for more family enjoyment. We also have a ferris wheel, bumper cars, merry-go-round and more within the mall. Kids would absolutely enjoy rides and entertainment like such,” Phang adds.
Other activities include a Triple Vision photo contest where participants simply need to dress up like triplets and e-mail the picture to the mall.
To reward shoppers during the holidays, shoppers who spend more than RM300 in 3 receipts will receive a free TGV movie ticket whereas those who spend RM500 or more get an additional pair of London, The Summer Musical tickets.
The school holiday celebration in Sunway Pyramid will end on 10 June.
