4:40 pm – The Voice 5 (FINALE)
OVERVIEW
Airing on AXN in the same week as the US telecast, The Voice Season 5 brings the original four coaches back to their red swivel chairs from where they will get started by picking their teams by only hearing contestants sing in the signature blind auditions of the innovative series.
As with previous seasons, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on appearances. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don’t get to see them – thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the artiste’s voice, a button is pressed to select the artist for his/her team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel to face the artist he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes their button, the artistes choose which coach they want to work with.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches dedicate themselves to develop their teams of artistes, offer advice and share the secrets of their success, along with help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit their own team members against each other and choose which singers will advance to the next round of competition, while those not selected are available to be stolen by another coach. Each coach has two steals available during the battle rounds.
At the end of the battles, only the strongest members of each coach’s roster remain and proceed to the knockout rounds. The artistes will be paired again with a member of their own teams, but this time, they find out with whom they are competing only minutes before performing. The artistes each select their own songs to perform individually, while their direct competitor watches and waits. They vie for their coach’s confidence and decision to take them to the live shows. The coach will choose the winner, and the artistes not selected will be sent home.
In the final live performance phase of the competition, the top artistes from each team will compete against each other at a live broadcast. America’s TV audience will vote to save their favourite artists, and the two artists with the fewest votes will be sent home each week. At stake is the grand prize of a recording contract for ‘The Voice’.
7.30 pm – Surf’s Up
OVERVIEW
Surf’s Up is an animated action-comedy that delves behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive surfing. The film profiles teenage Rockhopper penguin Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf), an up-and-coming surfer, as he enters his first pro competition. Followed by a camera crew to document his experiences, Cody leaves his family and home in Shiverpool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. Along the way, Cody meets Sheboygan surfer Chicken Joe (Jon Heder), famous surf promoter Reggie Belafonte (James Woods), surf talent scout Mikey Abromowitz (Mario Cantone), and spirited lifeguard Lani Aliikai (Zooey Deschanel), all of whom recognize Cody’s passion for surfing, even if it’s a bit misguided at times. Cody believes that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires, but when he unexpectedly comes face-to-face with a washed-up old surfer (Jeff Bridges), Cody begins to find his own way, and discovers that a true winner isn’t always the one who comes in first.
