ASTRO FIRST AND SUNDANCE CHANNEL PREMIERE STAR-STUDDED INDEPENDENT FILM “FLYPAPER”
Flypaper debuts on Astro First the same day as its U.S cinema release
Astro customers will be able to watch the premiere of Sundance Channel’s star-studded crime film Flypaper, on Astro First (Channel 480) beginning 20 August. Flypaper, the first English movie title on Astro First makes its debut on Astro First the same day as its cinema release in the United States, bringing the best of international titles simultaneously into Malaysian homes.
Astro customers will be among the first in the world to watch the romantic comedy. This marks the first of many brand new Sundance Channel independent films to become available on Astro First’s platform while the films are still in theaters in America.
Flypaper, which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, will be made available to all Astro customers on Astro First at an affordable price of RM15. The movie was directed by Rob Minkoff and written by “The Hangover” scripters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and stars Patrick Dempsey and Ashley Judd.
Patrick Dempsey, both producer and star of the film, commented, “Making “Flypaper” was a thrilling experience and I’m excited to share this fun romantic comedy with audiences in Malaysia on Astro First.”
Flypaper tells the story of Tripp Kennedy (Patrick Dempsey) who ambles into a bank near closing time, just as two different gangs unwittingly converge to rob it. A shoot-out erupts, and Tripp tackles the smart, pretty teller, Kaitlin (Ashley Judd), to protect her. The gangs—one clearly made up of pros and the other a couple of buffoons named Peanut Butter (Tim Blake Nelson) and Jelly (Pruitt Taylor Vince) —have deadlocked themselves in a Mexican standoff. The bank’s security system starts the end-of-day lockdown and seals everyone into the building. As the night evolves, a hilarious game of cat and mouse ensues as Tripp and Kaitlin try to save the day, escape being killed, and avoid falling in love . . . almost.
Having established himself as a successful studio director, Rob Minkoff enters the independent arena and incorporates a refreshing twist into the classic setup of the film. Boasting an impressive cast, whose members infuse the taut script with their own specific charm and comedic flare, Flypaper is an entertaining crime caper that is as much fun to watch as it is to figure out.
