Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), in collaboration with Leo Burnett, has struck a chord in the hearts of Malaysians with their festive television commercial (TVC) entitled “Pelita” this Hari Raya season.

The 90 second TVC shot in the fishing village of Sekinchan, shows a young man remembering the advice from his father to always help bring light to the darkness. As he reminisces on how his own lamp served him as a child, he realizes how much his father’s words shaped the man that he has become today. The approach the TVC takes sends out a heart-warming message; always be willing to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return.

“In life, we have many obstacles thrown our way. But in all of us, there is an energy and the potential for good. Through this TVC, we hope to show that it is the energy within that helps us to not only overcome our personal challenges, but to also think of others and help them with a sincere heart,” said Pn. Adelina Iskandar, Vice President of Corporate and Communication Affairs of TNB.

“The title of the TVC, Pelita, is a reflection of how the energy inside us shines through to allow for a better and brighter life for us and others as well. We should not just be thinking about ourselves, but rather learn to be considerate and put others’ needs ahead of ours,” she added.

“The beauty of Pelita is in its subtle simplicity. We wanted to capture and convey the essence of TNB as an energy provider, in that each person has the light within them to make their own lives and those around them better and brighter. We hope we achieved that with Pelita,” stated Iska Hashim, Leo Burnett’s creative director who, with his team, conceived the idea of the TVC.

“Designer Mohd Adib Azfar, copywriter Zaidee Zainal and art director Heng Yik See tapped into their childhood memories to make the TVC as insightful and charming as possible while film director Zahir Omar brought his authentic storytelling skills to light. However, much of Pelita’s success is owed to 10-year old Mohd Aiman Haziq who was a natural in front of the camera,” he enthused.
