Impiana KLCC Hotel recently conducted a fire drill as part of its continuous safety and security measures. The exercise was conducted amongst the associates who were given prior notice of the drill. However, guests at the hotel were also notified of the routine exercise in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
Five fire engines brought the busy traffic at Jalan Pinang at a near standstill recently when passers-by and on-lookers gathered to see victims and rescue team members scurrying for safety at the Hotel.
A total of 42 firemen from the Pudu, Titiwangsa, Hang Tuah and Jalan Maharajalela (Headquarter) fire stations alongside with the hotel’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) joined forces to conduct the drill.
“The fire drill aims to enhance emergency preparedness of the hotel. Through this exercise we can assess the coordination and response time of the various departments within the hotel and the fire department in case of emergency situations.”
The exercise started off at 10.30am when an emergency was announced through the hotel’s internal public area announcement system. Hotel’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) assessed the situation and immediately sent out a danger signal to the nearest fire station. Simultaneously announcements were made to all departments to prepare for evacuation. Within ten minutes, fire engines and four RIMs (Rapid Intervention Motorcycle) entered the premises and took over the command center.
Normal operations at the hotel continued while the drill was under way. A total of 154 hotel associates were involved in the drill. Head count was performed to make sure that all employees were safe and accounted for as soon as they reached the fire evacuation area beside the hotel.
Overall, the exercise was a successful event and everyone gave full cooperation. The hotel conducts fire drill twice a year to enhance associates competency and preparedness in handling fire emergencies.
