AirAsia supports Suu Foundation for better healthcare and education in Myanmar. The Suu Foundation was launched recently at the Co-operative Business Centre in Yangon, Myanmar, with AirAsia extending its support towards the foundation’s cause in bettering healthcare and education in Myanmar. Among those attended were the foundation’s founder Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chair of Suu Foundation Dr. Miemie W. Byrd, Director of Suu Foundation Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and AirAsia Berhad CEO Aireen Omar.
Aireen said, “AirAsia applauds the initiative by the Suu Foundation in bettering healthcare and education opportunities in Myanmar and we are proud to support its cause. We are committed to develop the community and economy of the destinations that we fly to.”
At the launch, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and foundation founder Daw Aung San Suu Kyi expressed her appreciation on AirAsia’s commitment.
“It is the intention of our foundation to raise the standard of health and education in our country, Burma. We thank AirAsia for their support and generosity” said Daw Aung San Suu Kyi .
Hillary Clinton (former US Secretary of State) and Laura Bush (former first lady of the US) are keen supporters of the foundation’s cause and both are honorary co-chairs of the Suu Foundation.
Myanmar is one of the important markets for the airline in Asean, providing direct air links from Yangon to Kuala Lumpur, and from Bangkok-Don Mueang in Thailand to Yangon and Mandalay. Myanmar is also accessible from other points of AirAsia’s network via the airline’s Fly-Thru destinations.
