AirAsia launches direct Kuala Lumpur-Palembang flights
Promotional fares from as low as RM79* (IDR 169,000)*
KUALA LUMPUR, 10 March 2011 – AirAsia, the leading and largest low cost carrier in Asia is launching direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Palembang, expanding the airline’s presently vast network and enhancing its reach across the region.
The route will commence services beginning 10 March 2011 and as a treat to guests, AirAsia is offering promotional fares from as low as RM79* (IDR 169,000)*. The promotional fares are valid for seats booked from now until 20 March 2011 and for travel from 4 May to 30 June 2011. The promotional fares are valid only for bookings on www.airasia.com.
The airline will be flying between both cities every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Flight time on the route is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
AirAsia Regional Head of Commercial, Kathleen Tan said, “With our three weekly flights and daily offer of low fares, guests can now more easily fly to the historical city of Palembang and our hub in Kuala Lumpur. The addition of Palembang strengthens our route network, especially in Indonesia, where AirAsia has been steadily growing. The opening of the route reflects AirAsia’s commitment to grow tourism across the ASEAN region and help spur economic growth beyond ASEAN’s capitals. The airline is aggressively promoting the region of Sumatra, where Palembang is located, as a top tourist destination.
With the opening of the route, AirAsia will have 13 destinations in Indonesia. Five of these destinations – Palembang, Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekan Baru and Padang – are in Sumatra.
