AirAsia enhances ‘Malaysia-Indonesia’ link with DAILY flights from Kuala Lumpur – Semarang!
SEPANG, 6 Feb 2012 – AirAsia, the world’s best low cost airline for three consecutive years (2009, 2010, 2011) enhanced its link from Malaysia to Indonesia with the inaugural of daily flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Semarang (SRG) today. The service links the two cities on a route which no other airline currently serves.
The airline offers daily direct flights from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Kuala Lumpur to Achmad Yani International Airport in Semarang.
AirAsia departs daily from Kuala Lumpur at 7.20am (GMT+8), and arrive in Semarang at 8.30am (GMT+7). Departure from Semarang to Kuala Lumpur is at 9.00am (GMT+7) and arrive at 12.20pm (GMT+8) daily. Log on to www.airasia.com for more information.
The airline received approximately 5,000 flight bookings during the new destination’s initial sale on 12 – 18 December 2011. The good response illustrates that demand is for the route is present, and AirAsia is ready to develop it further should the demand increases in the future.
AirAsia is offering a special promotion for the Kuala Lumpur – Semarang route in conjunction with the inaugural flight, with all-in-fares from as low as RM109 one way. The travel period of this promotion is from now until 12 February 2012, for the travel period of 8 February – 30 April 2012. The city of Semarang–14th Indonesian destination flown by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur–is the capital of Central Java province and located on the north coast of the Java Sea. Visitors may venture into the western part of the city and visit Sam Po Kong (better known as ‘Gedong Batu’ or Stone Building to locals), a temple dedicated to Admiral Cheng Ho, a famous Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral. His fleet arrived in Semarang in 1405. At the temple, various antique artifacts are on display, including an ancient ship anchor believed to originate from one of the admiral’s ships.
Gereja Blenduk is another historical attraction, a Protestant church with traditional Dutch architecture featuring beautiful crowning dome and towers. Its was completed in the middle of the 18th century.
Holidaymakers keen in outdoor activities may head to the northern side of the city, to bask in the sun at Karimunjawa Island; a national marine park consisting of many small islands. There are delicacies that should not be missed such as bandeng presto (pressure cooked milkfish) and tahu gimbal (deep fried tofu topped with fillings). Other delights worth sampling include lumpia (springrolls), tahu petis (tofu with chillies and soy sauce) and wingko babat (sticky rice cake).
