Be enthralled with a chamber concert by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) ensemble at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, KLCC, scheduled on Tuesday, 20 May 2008 at 6.30 p.m. The ensemble will present enticing chamber works such as Concerto in A minor composed by Antonio Vivaldi, Horn Trio in D (Op.61) by Heinrich von Herzogenberg and String Quartet in A minor (Op.51, No.2) by Johannes Brahms.
The ensemble will first perform Concerto in A minor which is vintage Vivaldi, comprising three brief movements (fast-slow-fast) and dividing between three solo instruments somewhat evenly.
c in D (Op.61) was composed by Elisabeth von Herzogenberg, the third daughter of the German Ambassador to Vienna whose great musical gifts were said to be rivaled only by her beauty. She had a platonic relationship with Brahms and this work, written in 1889, closely follows his work even down to the four-movement design and the affectionate nature of the musical language.
Finally, the MPO will present String Quartet in A minor (Op.51, No.2) composed by Johannes Brahms, which was strongly influenced by his association with Hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim, whom he had known since 1848. The second movement is a brief but passionate duet for violin and cello inspired by Hungarian traditional music.
The performance is expected to last for an hour. Tickets are priced at RM10 for all seating categories. Bookings can be made by calling the Box Office at 03-2051 7007 or fax 03-2051 7077 or email [email protected]
