KLIFF ’07 with the theme, “Celebrating Cultural Diversity” and sub-theme, “The Visual Effects Phenomenon”, will be held from 28th November to 2nd December 2007 in conjunction with Malaysia’s 50th Year of Independence and Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
The Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival (KLIFF), an annual event organised by the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival Sdn. Bhd. (KLIFFSB) and National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) aims at developing and promoting co-operation amongst filmmakers around the world, announces the list of renowned guest speakers participating in KLIFF ’07 Symposium.
The objective of KLIFF ’07 Symposium is not merely to provide networking platforms for the participants and guest speakers but also to engage Malaysian film industry professionals, aspiring talents and students on an intellectual platform to develop and shape the future of the film industry in the years to come.
The 12 topics of discussion will be divided into six main areas, namely Co-Production, Film Distribution, Film Funding, Post-Production & Visual Effects, 3D Motion Pictures and the Art of Storytelling. In addition, to maximise participation from attendees, the discussions in these six areas will be pursued in a forum format, each with its own specific keynote address. Mr. Hassan Abd. Muthalib, a pioneer in the area of animation in Malaysia and also a renowned film critic and historian, is ‘The Head Moderator for KLIFF ’07 Symposium. “We have an amazing line-up of keynote and panel speakers from around the world, each renowned in their own fields. They range from those involved not only in the business of filmmaking, but also in the creative aspects of production and post-production. Of particular interest will be the presentations on Visual Effects and the making of 3D films by panel speakers who have been involved in productions such as ‘The Rugrats’, ‘Garfield’, ‘Night at the Museum’ and ‘Evan Almighty’. The celebrated director of Children of Heaven and Children of Paradise, Majid Majidi, will also speak about his unique style of filmmaking.” says Mr. Hassan.
Apart from the Symposium, KLIFF ’07 will be organising a host of exciting activities, ranging from Film Screenings, Grand Premieres to an exhibition on creative multimedia content. KLIFF ’07 will culminate with the glamorous Awards Night that will be broadcast live on television to honour organisations and individuals who have excelled in the film industry, be it art house or mainstream motion pictures.
