Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) today appointed Maya Karin as GreenTech Ambassador for a two-year period to encourage wider public acceptance and appreciation on the application of green technology among Malaysians.
With this official appointment, Maya will be working with GreenTech Malaysia to support various initiatives under the organisation’s four key flagships namely Green Malaysia Plan, Green Procurement, Electric Mobility and Sustainable Living.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of GreenTech Malaysia, Ir. Ahmad Hadri Haris said, “We are very pleased to have Maya Karin on board to support GreenTech Malaysia’s initiatives. As you are all aware, global awareness on environmental degradation is rising and Malaysians too cannot afford to view green technology as optional anymore.”
“More than ever before, we need to make green technologies “mainstream” – and this is where the role of an ambassador who epitomises both professional success and genuine passion for the environment comes in. This is why we view Maya’s appointment as being timely and fitting,” he added.
Under this partnership, Maya is committed to be actively involved in GreenTech Malaysia’s key initiatives including the soon-to-be launched Electric Vehicle Car Sharing programme, MyHIJAU Youth Camp and the upcoming International GreenTech & Eco Products Conference and Exhibition. GreenTech Malaysia will also provide guidance for Maya to adopt inexpensive and practical ways to enhance energy and water efficiency in her house.
As an ardent environmentalist, Maya is extremely excited to embark on this green journey together with GreenTech Malaysia. Previously, she was actively involved with World Wildlife Fund, Malaysian Nature Society and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) to promote environmental events and issues. In her commitment towards conservation efforts, in 2008, Maya was also appointed as NRE’s goodwill ambassador for the International Year of the Reef.
Speaking about her appointment as the GreenTech Ambassador, Maya said, “I am honoured to have been given this opportunity to partner with an organisation that is at the forefront of driving the nation’s green agenda.”
“I will do my level best in my capacity as GreenTech Ambassador to reach out to Malaysians and help create greater awareness, acceptance and adoption of green products and services for a greener future,” she concluded.
