MTV Asia pays tribute to the life and legacy of former South African president and civil rights icon Nelson Mandela with airings of the documentary “Meeting Mandela: A Staying Alive Special”, which premiered over the weekend, and will repeat on 10 December, 11pm (WIB), 11 December, 12am (SG/HK/PH) and 1am (MAL). In the special, four young people travel to South Africa to discuss with Mandela some of the key issues affecting them and the world: HIV/AIDS, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and the struggle for democracy in Burma. Hosted by Beyoncé Knowles, the documentary first premiered on MTV’s international channels in 2003.

“Meeting Mandela: A Staying Alive Special” gives young people around the world a look at the historical life of Nelson Mandela, a great world leader who led South Africa to freedom. From his lifelong dedication to human liberties to his belief that each individual has the power to transform the world and have an ability to make an impact, Mandela was an inspiration to people all over the world. This special will air on MTV’s international channels across Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia and the Middle East.
“Meeting Mandela: A Staying Alive Special” was produced by MTV and Staying Alive in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation UNAIDS, the World Bank, the Kaiser Family Foundation & Family Health International’s YouthNet. The documentary has also been made available for free to third-party broadcasters throughout the world.
