Nik Nabil, the first Malaysian to win the Asia Pacific Cup in the 3rd Asia Pacific English Presentation Contest in Fukuoka in 2000 has just gotten his long awaited break of his long cherished dream; to sing his own compositions in front of his friends and music lovers. He will be doing that at the Cantumas Travel Café, a popular spot for independent singers and bands to perform.
A biomedical engineering graduate and working now with a biotechnology firm, he finds the opportunity almost heart stopping.
“When I was invited to sing for Cantumas Ladies Nite by the organizer, I was almost speechless. I’ve waited all my life for this.” said the 30 year old executive from Bandar Sunway who confessed that what makes it more meaningful was the fact that he could not play any instruments or read notes.
“Performing my own songs will be a testament to my undying effort to tell people to try to believe in the precious talents that God have given to all of us, however challenged our situations are. I was thankful though, to a particular pianist I met at a studio in Damansara Uptown who first believed in me. I was broke back then so the collaboration didn’t pick up after the first song but I never lost hope!”
Nabil will be singing his songs, arranged and accompanied by Bling! Bling! Guitarist, Mior. They are Aku tak Bisa, Memori, Selalu, Masih, Jika, Jika Pernah and Cintamu. He will also be singing Chariot by Gavin DeGraw, Better Man by Robbie Williams and Tapi Bukan Aku by Kerispatih.
“My songs are about hope and love. Its about trying to understand what it feels to long and to love and about whether could there be such a thing as Cinta Sejati”.
