The signing of the MOU underlines an estimated cash investment of over RM 1 million (RMB 2 million) which includes marketing efforts to further promote Chengdu as a tourist destination. This strategic partnership will include numerous joint marketing efforts and advertising campaigns and an establishment of a Chengdu Tourism Center in Malaysia in which AirAsia X has the privilege of being the only airline promoted.
Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X says, “We are always going full force in promoting all 16 routes which AirAsia X flies to and this collaboration is essential as China is a commercial hub and a country that has a population of over 1.3 billion people. Travelers around the world are now more aware of the other tourist destinations in China apart from Shanghai and Beijing and Chengdu is one strong potential. Our flight into Chengdu from Kuala Lumpur has proven popular ever since we started operations in October 2009. We have seen a significant jump in passenger load with over *84% traffic both inbound and outbound for the Kuala Lumpur – Chengdu route. We are positive that this partnership with Chengdu Tourism will help give the extra push to further increase tourist numbers into Chengdu.”
To kick start this collaboration, AirAsia X will run a contest on our social media platform themed “The AirAsia X Pandemonium” on AirAsia’s facebook page from 31st October 2011 till 30 November 2011 to our facebook fan base of over 1 million fans. Two lucky winners will stand a chance to win an all expense paid trip to Chengdu for two. For more details on the contest, kindly log on to facebook.com/AirAsia.
