What a catch!
The month-long, arduous hunt for the Red FM’s Runaway DJs came to an exciting end at the on-ground finale in Tropicana City Mall this afternoon.
Taking off in a Proton Inspira, the Red FM’s Runaway DJs have been on the loose with listeners following their trail to different places around the Klang Valley and beyond. Going out and about to secret locations every Monday to Friday, clues to those sites have been given on-air and online to help participants track down the Red FM’s Runaway DJs. It’s a rewarding chase as they vie to win cash, iPad 2s, iPod Nanos, concert tickets and the ultimate prize – a brand new red Proton Inspira 1.8 CVT. The first listener to turn up at the correct location and identify the Red FM’s Runaway DJ of the day receives a ‘key’ to the finale where they get to try their luck at winning the car. Participants raced against time to catch the deejays at various stops in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Kajang and Subang. The deejays even traveled as far as Ipoh, Seremban and Malacca to spread the excitement and fun.
The long awaited finale today saw participants who held the ‘key’ turning up for a prize giving ceremony at the main atrium of the mall as well as for their chance to win the car. All of the Red FM’s Runaway DJs were present and took turns to host the different prize giveaways. The crowd was also treated to a brief performance by one of Malaysia’s top R&B artiste, James Baum. It was a nail biting time for all when the draw for the car finally came up. Each person would take their pick of remote car alarms on hand and attempt to unlock the car door with it.
When the car headlights lighted up at the press of the button on Wayne Soo Ing Sheng’s remote car alarm, there were gasps of disbelief all around at his good luck. Not only was the 23 year-old Soo the first participant to arrive at the event, he was also the first person to select his choice of the remote car alarm and he succeeded at his first try! The realization only sank in when Rudy and Jeremy of the Red FM’s Breakfast Show (Monday to Friday, 6.00am to 10.00am), declared Soo the ultimate winner and the triumphant moment was heralded with a burst of colourful confetti amid thunderous applause.
Soo’s mother and girlfriend accompanied him to the finale and the trio came dressed up in red for luck. Embarking on the hunt for the Red FM’s Runaway DJs with his girlfriend, their painstaking efforts in deciphering the on-air and online clues were well rewarded. An ecstatic Soo said: “This is a dream came true for me as I have always wanted to own a car. It’s been a fun search and while I hoped hard to be the lucky winner, I’m still in shocked that I actually won!”
The thrilling event came to an end upon presentation of a mock car key to Soo by Azrullah Mohd Nor, the Chief Operating Officer of Red FM. It was a successful collaboration between Red FM and Proton Edar in shaping this momentous win as Soo declared it to be the best ‘catch’ of his life. With more upcoming lucrative contests on Red FM, the station’s continued determination in making delighted winners out of its listeners is indeed sweet music to the ears of all!
