19 Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 Candidates Revealed As Pageant Ramps Up
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – September 13 2011: ASTRO was today revealed as the official broadcaster of the ground breaking reality television show – BeautyCamp: The Search for Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 (“BeautyCamp”) – that will air September 29 2011 at 3.30pm on ASTRO Hitz.TV (ASTRO Channel 705).
The continuing evolution of the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (“MUMO”) was shared today as members of the Malaysian media watched Deborah Henry – Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 – compete in Sao Paolo, Brazil for the Miss Universe 2011 title. Also revealed at the event were the 19 candidates selected from around Malaysia to compete for the title Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 and represent the country at Miss Universe 2012.
“Today, Deborah Henry represented us on a global stage and also took the Malaysian presence at Miss Universe to the next level. ASTRO will help us bring the search for Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 into the homes of Malaysians everywhere while beginning the campaign that will help us find, appoint and train a candidate as strong as Deborah – or even better!” said Stephen P Francis, Adviser and Consultant to the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation.
This is the first time that any country in South East Asia has used a reality television show as part of the selection process for their Miss Universe candidate and it is definitely the first time any pageant has tried it here.
BeautyCamp – Not Your Everyday Bootcamp
BeautyCamp represents a new format of programming for Malaysian television and one of the few times that reality television programming has been used in conjunction with the Miss Universe pageant anywhere in the world!
The show, with six (6) one-hour episodes, will culminate in a LIVE broadcast of a two hour Gala Night where the new Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 candidate will be revealed and crowned on November 10 2011 at the Sunway Convention Centre. It will be accompanied by web capsule episodes online as well, that will feature behind the scene excerpts and extended views of content that viewers will see during the show.
“We travelled Malaysia with MUMO for the first time this year and were amazed by the talent and beauty that we saw as over 1,000 potential candidates signed up at our road shows and online. From these we selected the final list of just 19 girls after a fiercely fought audition process. These young ladies showed us that they had that extra dose of intelligence, beauty, spirit and that special fire that the judges spotted in their auditions. We hope Malaysian’s see these special girls for what they are – ambassadors of the country, the people and the brands that make up our wonderful nation,” Francis added.
