Kuala Lumpur, June 21, 2011 – Broadway Academy (M) Sdn Bhd, the pioneer company in Malaysia in producing Broadway shows from New York City, is already half way through in its production schedule for Dreamgirls: The Broadway Musical Sensation, to be staged at Istana Budaya from 14 to 24 July 2011. Broadway Academy (BA) also has a Talent School which aims to groom talents in Malaysia to become professional performers in musical theater.
The Royal Patron for Dreamgirls is HRH Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak. HRH will be gracing the event on July 17 for the Royal Gala Night & Charity Night. With Casey Koh as Executive- Producer and Marvin Koh as co-producer, this technically demanding production will consist of a cast of over 30 performers and 15 musicians.
From the same producers of SHOUT! The Mod Musical which had two successful runs last year, Broadway Academy is proud to have a stellar cast in Dreamgirls. Among those expected to appear on stage are Cheryl Samad, Dina (Malaysian Idol), Tony Eusoff, Dafi (Akademi Fantasia), Azura Zainal, Ruzana Ibrahim, Indi Nadarajah, Joy Shavini Victor, Aaron Khaled, Nadrah, and Elvira Arul. In addition to this talented group of Malaysian performers, Broadway Academy is bringing in a special guest performer from New York City, with an aim to inspire, motivate, and help raise the standards of the Malaysian musical theatre scene.
Kris Coleman will play the role of Jimmy Early (James Thunder). Kris’s debut in Malaysia bridges the gap between Malaysian creative arts and Broadway in New York. Broadway Academy has specially flown Kris over as a cross-cultural experience and to introduce Malaysian talents to the world of international theatrical arts.
