Maxis enriches lives of customers & employees’ children with merit-based scholarships

Maxis Berhad (“Maxis”), Malaysia’s leading integrated communications provider, presented 21 brilliant young Malaysians with the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Awards (MSEA) today; bringing them a big step closer to their dream of distinction in their selected fields. These students will pursue undergraduate programmes locally and abroad. The awards were presented by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education I, YB Dato’ Dr. Hou Kok Chung and Maxis’ Chairman, Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda.

The scholarships help to carve a direct path for new Malaysian talent by providing them with life-changing opportunities and access to prestigious universities in Malaysia and other parts of the world. Since its inception in 2005, Maxis has successfully awarded 78 undergraduate scholarships and the company is the first integrated communications service provider to offer merit-based scholarships to children of customers and employees.

Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda, Chairman of Maxis said, “The Maxis Scholarship for Excellence programme demonstrates our commitment in nurturing young Malaysian talent by opening crucial doors to the finest education and 21st century technology skills. As a leader in an industry that is continuously scaling steep learning curves from the ongoing adoption of new technologies, we are acutely aware of the importance of putting in place the right people to drive these seismic shifts in industry and technology. This is why Maxis has always put its weight behind education-related initiatives that support exceptional talent.”

“We are also pleased to be directly enriching the lives of our customers and employees by offering them and their children merit-based scholarships. Our scholarships are not limited to fields related to communications technology alone as Maxis understands that today, communications cuts through industries and influences commerce and culture. As Maxis moves into the Life Services sphere, we can appreciate the direct impact that excellence and innovation in other sectors – such as entertainment, education, healthcare – has on our own.

“The Government has often emphasised that we need a new breed of Malaysians who can lead this country’s charge into its new future by pushing new breakthroughs in their chosen fields, both locally and also globally. In this context, Maxis is proud to be a partner to the Malaysian Government in building a high performing, world-class workforce that will support the Government’s national vision of a high income nation,” he added.
