Catch Tycoons of Asia: Ho Kwon Ping on 24 February 2011, Thursday at 9pm (encores on 1 March, at 10pm) on BIO (Astro channel 731) to discover Ho’s incredible vision and relentless determination that created Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts’ luxury flagship resort Laguna Phuket, which won a host of environmental and design awards. Mr. Ho Kwon Ping is the Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, which owns both listed and private companies engaged in the development, ownership and operation of resorts, residential homes and other lifestyle activities in the region. KP, as he is known, is also the founder of Laguna Phuket.
The documentary includes interviews with Claire Chiang (Mrs Ho), Teo Soon Hoe and Andy Tan (both are Ho’s army buddy), Lucas Chow (former MediaCorp’s CEO), senior management from Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts to provide a better perspective of Ho’s contribution to responsible tourism activities.
It was Ho’s vision, imagination and determination that converted the ravaged wasteland of a disused tin mine into Asia’s most successful integrated resort with a string of environmental awards to its credit. In 1994, buoyed by the success of Asia’s first integrated resort, Laguna Phuket, Ho decided it was appropriate time to launch the company’s own global hotel brand targeting high-end travellers.
The documentary also brings viewers to explore the notable Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, which was set up to operate luxury boutique hotels and resorts. Ho always wants to be steep in Asian traditions and sensitive to the environment. While Banyan Tree Phuket is still the flagship resort, the company has since grown to over 20 resorts in less than 13 years, with close to 50 properties in the pipeline to open by 2011.
After watching the hour long biography, each of you stand a chance to win an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dine with Asian tycoon Ho Kwon Ping, plus the ultimate resort experience at Banyan Tree Phuket in a Double Pool Villa and Spa treatment!
