Anatomy of a Crime also uses archive footage, and interviews with witnesses and experts to piece together a gripping account of some of the most important and disturbing crimes in Asia.

Bali Bombings 2002, 18 Nov
On a busy Saturday night at the height of Bali’s tourist season two lethal bombs exploded in the district of Kuta, killing 202 people, and leaving a scar on the island that will likely never fade.

At just past 11pm, on October 12, 2002, a suicide bomber from Jemaah Islamiyah blew himself up in Paddy’s bar. Seconds later, another more powerful bomb hidden in a white minivan was detonated by another suicide bomber in front of the Sari Club, just across the street. Moments before these explosions, just 10km away in Bali’s capital city of Denpasar, a third bomb was detonated, in between the Australian and US consulates. While no-one was injured in this blast, it would later be defined as a calling card – and a sure-fire sign this atrocity was aimed at foreigners involved in the so-called war against terror.

Anatomy of Crime illustrates exactly what happened in the moments leading up to this horrifying attack in Bali and how a united police force investigation helped bring some of the perpetrators to justice.

Hunting Taiwan’s ‘Evil Dragon’, 25 Nov
For a decade, Taiwan’s rich and famous were terrorised by kidnapper Chang Hsi-ming. He was dubbed “The Evil Dragon” by the media, and proved to be one of the most elusive and cunning criminals in the country’s history.

With an arsenal of AK 47s and grenades Chang and his gang were better armed than even the police, who eventually formed a special task force to bring him to justice.
In 2004 an army of over 100 stormed his fortress in Kaohsiung County. More than 1,000 bullets were fired, but Chang somehow escaped – and once again went on the run. But although Chang was smart, Taiwan’s police were smarter.

Anatomy of a Crime shows how they tracked down this gang using cutting edge technology and surveillance techniques. When Chang’s men got bored in their hideout, they surfed the internet. Little did they know, police were monitoring their every move, and eventually got a lock on their location. Then, in a final ambush, a wounded inspector risked his life to finally end The Evil Dragon’s reign of terror.

The program is also available in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin subtitle.
