Samsung Boosted Sales Momentum in the Monitor Market in 1Q
Samsung remains No.1 in the monitor business for 19 consecutive quarters
SEOUL, Korea –12 July 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. strengthened its No.1 position in the monitor market with 6.21 million units sold in the first quarter.
According to a report by the display market research firm DisplaySearch, Samsung has topped the global monitor market for 19 straight quarters since the third quarter in 2006.
It took 14.6 percent share in the LCD monitor market as well, keeping its global No. 1 position for 11 consecutive quarters starting from the third quarter in 2008. Samsung was the only monitor maker who sold over 5 million units in the first quarter.
The global market leader has rolled out cutting-edge models such as 3D monitor ahead of competitors, and its region-specific models are well received by the market.
Samsung’s new monitor colored in red was launched last January, targeting Chinese consumers who love red color. This strategy made it a big hit in China.
Samsung’s active 3D monitor also fascinated Korean consumers with two times crisper 3D effects and an unexpected but highly recognizable design.
It also shows a strong leadership both in LED and large-sized monitor categories.
Samsung took the No. 1 position in the LED monitor market with the 18.1 percent of market share, widening the gap between the first and second places by 4.2 percentage points. LED monitor accounted for around 34 percent out of the total number of monitors sold in the first quarter.
In the large-sized monitor market, Samsung has maintained its leadership. It sold more than 3 million units of 21.5 inch-and-larger monitor in the first quarter, capturing 20.4 percent market share.

In terms of dollars, Samsung ranked the first in the total monitor market as well as the LED monitor with 15.0 percent and 18.5 percent of market share respectively.
DisplaySearch said that the global LED monitor market in the first quarter came in at 11.7 million units, and the total monitor market—42.46 million units.
