MUSLIM WORLD’S BIGGEST ROCKSTAR DUETS WITH MALAYSIAN SUPERSTAR
The multi-million selling star, who has been hailed as the “Biggest name in Muslim music”, Sami Yusuf is performing a duet with Malaysian’s own superstar, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin for his latest album, Salaam.
The song, entitled “You Came To Me” will feature the soul searching vocals of Sami Yusuf and the sweet, powerful vocals of Siti Nurhaliza.
The song was recorded at singer and producer Yasin Sulaiman’s Harem Studio in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya. “You Came To Me” features a combination of English, Malay and Arabic lyrics.
“I chose to perform a duet with Siti Nurhaliza because, other than the fact that she is the best, she also has a wonderful, lovely voice and she is also very dignified, very respectable. She carries with her a certain grace, and to me that is very important.
“I don’t really collaborate, but when I do, I like to do it with people who share similar values and ideas. We hope that it will be a very fruitful and blessed collaboration, Insyaallah (God willing),” said Sami.
Siti Nurhaliza said she is very excited to be performing the duet with Sami.
“They had approached me a few months ago and I have been looking forward to collaborate with Sami. His songs are inspirational and spiritual. I am really looking forward to the concert, and I hope that Malaysians would come and join us for the concert,” she said.
Sami said the theme of the album and the concert is about unity.
“It’s about bringing people together. It is about uniting, not dividing, building, not destroying. It’s about celebrating the similarities. We are one human family, we share the same ground and the same sky at the end of the day.
“The concert here will be very exciting. Siti Nurhaliza will also be performing with me in the concert. I’m very honored and delighted to be given such a warm reception in malaysia. I’ve been waiting to perform in Malaysia for the past eight years. It is going to be a very special show,” he added.
Sami Yusuf has played to sold out concerts around Bosnia, Canada, France, Belgium, Finland, Austria, Greece and the Netherlands.
In the Middle East and Asian regions, he performed to crowds of tens of thousands in Egypt’s Cairo and Alexandria, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE and Saudi Arabia among others. He received a record crowd of 250,000 in Istanbul, Turkey, earning him the title “Islam’s Biggest Rock Star”.
Tickets for Konsert Salaam Sami Yusuf will be on sale from May 2, 2012.
